Sample at Ale Wine & Spirits in Powell on 09/09/2011. The beer is a clear dark orange color with a medium off-white head that diminishes to an outer ring. Short strings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of caramel malt and mild hops. Light to medium body with a sweet malt and caramel flavor balanced by a light hoppy note. The finish is malty with a butterscotch/caramel aftertaste. Decent overall.

On draught at Gallo’s Tap Room. The beer is a clear pale yellow-gold color with a medium white head that burns away steadily. Partial rings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of grassy hops and bready malt. Light to medium body with a crisp hoppy character that has grassy and herbal qualities. Sweet malt base as well. The finish is hoppy and lingering. Overall a decent tasty lower-ABV Pale Ale.

On draught at Gallo’s. The beer is a clear dark amber color with a medium off-white head that diminishes steadily. Rings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of spiced hops and sweet toasted malt. Medium body with a moderately bitter hops character that has piney and herbal notes. Touches of malt and fruit too. The finish is hoppy with a lingering bitterness left over. The word "Rye" didn’t jump into my mind drinking it, still a solid brew.

Bottle from a trade. Pours a hazy gold with a white head that dissipates to the edges and laces slightly. Aroma has some notes of light citrus and pine with some grapefruit and a hint of resin and sweet grains. Flavor begins with light fruit and citrus but becomes resinous with pine in the finish. Bottle shared by Dan, thanks! Poured a hazy gold with a white head that dissipated to the edges. Aroma had notes of strong pine, some dankness with a bit of a backing sweet grain note. Flavor started similarly to the nose with a strong dank pine note with some resin but the flavor kind of dies off in to a weaker finish that left a bit to be desired.

Travis brought this one to the Memorial Day Party. Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a dark golden color with a large yellow-white head that lingered and left good lacing. The aroma was tangy and citric with notes of cardboard and bread. The flavor was sour and tangy with pronounced butter and notes of lemon, chalk and cardboard. The finish was long and tangy with lingering butter, bread and citrus. Medium body. Disappointing.

12oz bottle pours a hazy, copper orange with a thin, lacing white head. Nice aroma, hop pellets, C hops, orange, lemon zest, grapefruit, pine, flowers, a little honey, a little apple, a little resinous. Flavor is well balanced, citrus without being overly bitter, orange, pine, honey, flower pollen, a little wet earth, a little grapefruit. Full bodied, sweet, bitter finish. Extremely well balanced with a great nose.

Bottle. Pours a reddish rust color, hazy, with a creamy light beige head. The aroma is ginger cookies, cinnamon sugar and biscuity malt. Taste is relatively sweet with a holiday spice finish. Mouthfeel is smooth and creamy with relatively low carbonation. Overall, it’s a decent holiday ale but a bit too simple. The spicing could be more varied and the finish cleaner. Still, I enjoy the malt flavor, and the beer is definitely in the holiday spirit.

On cask at Bob’s Bar during the CBC Christmas party on 12/10/2010. The beer pour brownish-black with a thin and foamy tan head that burns away steadily. Small patches of lacing on the glass. Aroma of mild coffee and bittersweet chocolate. Medium, smooth body with flavors of roasted malt and coffee, plus a touch of cocoa. The finish is roasty and sweet with a mild coffee aftertaste. I hear this beer is going to replace the Porter as a regular offering, which is kind of a bummer, but this beer is pretty good.
