Cask at Cork City. Clear, light yellow color. Aroma comes off not so great, dirt and a little mulch, light fruity notes. Flavor slightly off as well. Either this shows terribly on cask, it was treated poorly, or it’s just not a good beer. I can’t say for sure.

Extremely cloudy (murky) mustard gold color topped by a large rocky white head. Subdued, grainy sweet malt nose. Tart, doughy rye malt flavor. Bready, nutty, grainy, earthy and lemony. Slightly acidic with citrus hops. Earthy, yeasty notes and resin hops in finish. 7%ABV is well hidden.

Poured from a 16 oz can. Aroma has a medium light chocolate note with some faint roast notes. Moderate dark caramel notes with some light toasted bread notes. Light citrus and tropical fruit notes with a light woody note. Pours dark brown to black with a medium large, thick, pillowy, dark tan/light mocha head that shows really nice retention as it slowly, but steadily recedes. Moderate lacing and light legs. Flavor has a medium light sweetness with some chocolate notes and lighter roast and toasted bread. Medium caramel notes. Medium high bitterness. Some light citrus notes with hints of tropical fruit and pine notes. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation. Low astringency and low alcohol warmth. Overall, a pretty nice beer, but it’s not really much of an IPA. It doesn’t have a ton of hop character and the malt profile is more like that of a stout or porter. Fairly sweet. I’m not a big fan of black IPAs and this one isn’t really an exception to that.
