Description
While it is thought the Chinese sipped the first beer in 7000 BC, Mesopotamia is where craft beer got its roots. The ancient Sumerians viewed their brew as a daily necessity and considered it a gift from the gods to promote joy and health. The unresolved argument remains today…what came first, the beer or the bread?
Brewers were typically female and highly regarded in early Mesopotamia. In fact, Ninkasi, goddess of beer, was not only the beer itself, she was also the boss brewer of the gods. Her responsibility was to supply the good drink to the temples and sacred sites. Her recipe evolved into medicinal potions, religious sacrifices, and a nutritious dietary staple for all classes of society.
Please, join us to honor Ninkasi and bring craft beer back to the cradle of civilization.

11th June 2019; Shrewsbury Beer Exchange meeting in Chez Sophie, cheers Mat for the 33cl bottle. Clear amber body, white top. Fairly sweet throughout, malty with a very little hop action for balance. My sweet tooth liked it, but the rest of me would have preferred a bit more depth of flavour and some bolder hop content; there again it is a Vienna!

Bottle from the National Brewery Centre, Burton-upon-Trent. Bright amber, clear with a ring of white head. Big smell of malt loaf, ripe orange peel, persimmon. Very sweet and slightly spicy taste with resinous fruity notes to the sugary finish. Slight bitterness in the aftertaste. Body is too far too thin, which is disappointing. All in all decent for the style.
