Description
Daisen G Beer is a craft beer brewery located in Tottori prefecture, in the Chugoku region, just north of Okayama. Located at the base of Mt. Daisen, which is more commonly known as Hōkifuji in the area, the brewery opened in 1997 as an off-shoot of the sake producing company Kumezakura Shuzō and San-in Sanso Corporation, a company that deals with high-pressure gas. The local area is famous for its clear spring water, sourced from the snow at the top of the mountain, and its black soil, kuroboku in Japanese, which is said to be some of the most fertile in Japan. This fertile soil has resulted in Daisen G Beer being able to grow its own barley, in the form of Daisen Gold, in the spring; Daisen G Beer’s own hops, called Weihen Hop, which are harvested in the summer, and also Yamadanishiki, a sake yeast that is used in the production of the beers such as Daisen G Yagō.

Bottle (from Japan, vintage 2013)
Rating #13000. Murky brown color, small off-white head. Aroma has toffee, alcohol, tart fruits, hints of vinegar. Medium to full-bodied. Toffee, tart fruits, yeastyness. Alcohol in the finish. Dessert beer with odd cellary vibe. Perharps aging has not gone totally ok.

On tap at the Beer Belly Tosabori Daisen Event. Daisen Pilsner on tap at Beer Belly Tosabori. It pours a light semi-cloudy gold. 5% 23 IBU a nice foamy white head, a bready light malt nose with a light fruity hop nose. Light easy drinking body with crackery/biscuit malts & a mild bitterness. Crisp green vibrant hoppiness, dry finish and a crisp flavor. Pretty nice.

A beer made with sake yeast. 6.5% On tap at Beer Komachi a nice bare bones place in a neglected shopping arcade near Higashiyama station. The beer pours a fairly clear gold with a fruity, yoghurty aroma. The taste clearly owes a great deal to the yeast, yoghurt lactic quality, tart fruitiness and a dry palate cleansing finish. Really interesting and probably one of the better sake-beer hybrids out there.

Bottle from Yamaoka. Orange-gold color, hazy, tall, fine head. Fruity nose, rice, malt, wheat, estery. Sweet, fruity, spicy flavor. You can taste the ginjo yeast. Lemon, melon, peaches, lots of orange, light bitterness, light funk. Interesting stuff. Too sweet to be super drinkable, but tasty.

Deep amber-colored lager with very big hopping. Flavors of orange, caramel, and a touch of cinnamon. Rich and full, very good balance. Nicely done.

On tap at the Kyoto 2014 Craft Beer. The Yago poured a cloudy light gold with a pretty nice banana & cloves aroma. Medium bodied with tons of weizen flavor, really spicy with cloves up the wazoo. Tasty but an aggressive weizen like beer.

The imperial lager poured a beautiful amber color with a big hoppy nose of herbal & citrusy hop notes - delicious. Medium bodied with a palate cleansing bitterness. This is frikin delicious! A fest highlight for sure, the solid malt background gives the hops the support to shine with tons of flavor. Excellent.
