On tap at the GJBF Osaka. A great smokey aroma with a dark brown pour, the flavor is smoke malts with massive bacon overtones which pound home the smokey goodness. Ridiculously delicious & drinkable for 6.5%, very very good.

4.5% take away from Bungalow during Gion Matsuri. It pours a cloudy straw gold with a white head, a nice looking beer. A lovely spicy smell of cloves. Perhaps not as smooth as Echigo’s but a nice white beer nevertheless.

Draught at the Tanabata Beer Festival 2013. Dark brown, a bit cloudy, with lace. Big smoke nose, bacon, chocolate. Very smoky for a Japanese rauch. Great malt character, light tang, and great bacon smoke flavor. Very well done.

9% popped this bottle of Daisen G’s 2012 Barleywine to celebrate hitting 200 likes on my page Kansai Beer Lovers. It pours a wonderful amber with a quickly dissipating head. A great fruity aroma of plum, figs and some port like notes. The taste isn’t as complex as other barleywines but it is full-bodied and the flavor has caramel at first then a nice rich malty sweetness followed by mild warming from the alcohol. Solid.

Bottle, thanks to Bruce. It pours cloudy golden orange with a small white head. The nose is apricot, peach, butternut squash and dough. The taste is earth, light spice, butternut squash, peach, apricot yoghurt and creaminess with a dry finish. Medium body and fine carbonation. Good balance and decent flavour. Pretty nice.

Tasting at Bruce’s pad. Thanks to Bruce for an all too rare Japanese tick. Hazy gold beer, little white head. Palate is softish and a little dry. Light creamy malt with light bretty citrus. Creamy malt finish. Hangs together well.

Bottle at Bruce’s, London. Big thanks to Bruce for bringing this back for his travels in the Far East. Pours cloudy yellow-gold with a fine, white foam head. Sweet doughy malt nose, hints of orange and lemon merengue. Huge sweet flavor, lots of white bread, some raw alcohol, light dry straw, dough. Full bodied with fine carbonation. Warming finish, some sticky white sugars, doughy white bread, a touch medicinal, hay. Not bad.

On tap at the Kyoto Craft Beer Fest. Aged since 2011, I was quite impressed with Daisen G at the Kyoto Fest as I enjoyed both of their beers I tried there. It poured a great looking stout with a tan head. A creamy body, malt forward sweet then chocolate followed by a dry mild hoppy finish. Nice!

One of the stand outs at the Kyoto Craft Beer Fest. On tap. It poured a nice cloudy color with a light white head. It was slightly sweet, spicy and had a hint of funk. I really enjoyed it, very drinkable. I’ll definitely drink it again.
