(Bottle) Opaque shiny black with hint of coffee brown head. Rich sweet aroma of chocolate with a hint of licorice. Full bodied, even sticky, with modest but fine carbonation. Intense flavour of bitter burnt toffee and dark chocolate with a bitter finish. An extraordinary beer but quite challenging and not for everyday consumption.

From a 330ml bottle on 8/10/2011. Abv listed as 7.5% rather than 7.2%. Pours a very dark amber with a big head. Has a slightly fruity, hoppy aroma. The flavours are primarily dark chocolate and a touch of fruit. Very hoppy at the back. Another enjoyable beer from Murrays.

(Bottle) Did not look at all appealing: muddy brown with little head. But looks are in this case deceiving. Rich, fruity, peppery, hoppy aroma. Medium body, medium carbonation. Flavour is peppery spice and sweetness with a big bitter finish. Overall an excellent beer, but surely not a brown ale?

Bottled. A pitch black beer with a dark brown head. The aroma has notes of roasted malt and soy sauce. The flavor is sweet with notes of roasted malt, soy sauce, and wood, leading to a lightly astringent, dry, woody, and alcoholic finish.

Bottle from GBBF 2011. It pours hazy deep orange-gold, with a thick white head. The nose is orange citrus fruits (particularly mango), pine, orange sherbet and creamy. The taste is sweet orange, zesty tangerine, tangy marmalade, sherbet, resin, pine, big bitterness, leather, oily hop, spice and light alcohol warmth, with a tangy citrus-dry finish. Medium body, moderate carbonation and foamy mouth-feel. A well balanced, high drinkable, zesty double IPA.

Bottle at GBBF 2011, Day 3. Pours rich brown with a big, beige head. Mild roast aroma, hints of licorice. Medium sweet flavor, slightly tangy, moderately roasty, with edgy dark malts. Medium to full in body with soft to average carbonation. Mild warming finish, pleasant roasted malts, slight Belgian yeast, some dark sugar. A very good, well rounded beer.
