In 1903 sterft Willem Geenen, 63 jaar.

The label looks a bit uninteresting, but hey, never judge a beer by its bottle. Inviting, flowery smell. Aroma of citrus fruits, some apple, hoppy. Moderate bitterness on finish. The Gouverneur Blonde is hardly special, but it’s a pleasant enough brew. I am always in the mood for a nice blonde.

I’m baffled at what makes this beer a ’speciale’, because we’re dangerously close to pilsener territory with this one. I like the Gouverneur Blonde much better.

Pours a dark brown/amber with a small beige head. Aroma of roasted malts, caramel, toffee. This brew has a nice body. One of the better bocks I’ve had this season, will revisit.

Aroma of dark malt, caramel, candy sugar, fruity notes, lots of herbal notes. Only a hint of roast. Flavour is sweet with a light bittersweet finish. This isn’t anywhere near a Stout, more like a sweet Dubbel. Quite disappointing.
