In 1870 begint Willem Geenen met de brouwerij naast de schuur van zijn huis. In oktober van dat jaar levert hij het eerste bovengistende bier. In 1897 komt zoon Bernard naar Neer en raakt steeds meer betrokken bij de brouwerij. De naam wordt veranderd naar "Bierbrouwerij ‘De Lindeboom’ W. Geenen en Zoon”. In 1903 sterft Willem Geenen, 63 jaar. Zoon Bernard en dochter Christine nemen samen de leiding op zich. De naam blijft gehandhaafd. Na het overlijden van Willem sr. in 1978 nemen Ben en Willem jr. samen de leiding van Lindeboom op zich. In 2013 vindt de feestelijke opening van de nieuwe brouwzaal plaats in aanwezigheid van Mevrouw Geenen (3e generatie) en Bernd Geenen (5e generatie) alsmede Paul Joosten, algemeen directeur.

The aroma is sweet malty with notes of straws. The color is red amber and it has a fine but disappearing head. The flavor is malty sweet with notes of caramel. It ends on a slightly dry note.

[½ year over best before date] The aroma is filled with notes of peaches and yeast. The color is orange and it has no head. The start is watery, then comes notes of grain and straws before it turns sour (is it because it is too old?) Not a good beer.

Brown color, short head. Aroma is very sweet, caramel malts, some chocolat. Sweet taste, bit sharp on the tongue. Sharp bit metallic palate. Nice beer.

Red-brown beer; yellowish head, not stable. Molasses, brown sugar, parsley & faint cheese in the nose. Watered-down dark candi syrup. In the flavour chapter, I get a taste of rye at last - all "Gouverneur" beers are made with rye, but this is the first identification. Faint end-acidity, probably related. Still relatively light-bodied. Some warming feeling. Better than average... Lindeboom. "Eigenzinnig", "obstinacy", they claim on the label. Yes, to the point of suicidalness.

Paler amber; very little head, dwindling to white rim. Nose of cookies, faint almonds - almondbiscuits or frangipane?, leafy. Rather watery, at first sweet crystal malt taste, resembling an English keg ale if anything. Rather bitter retronasal taste, unrefined hopping. Quite heavily carbonated, despite the little head - no contribution to the taste, though. Watery texture; aftertaste becomes biscuit-like again. Another superfluous addition to the BlandBeerBrigade. Why a small familybrewer dabbles in this?

Yellowish gold; slim white head. Bit of vanilla in the nose, cypress, cookies. Taste with crystal malt, slight herbal flavour, cypress. Tingling sensation as from mineral water - and not much fuller bodied. Refreshing, but hopelessly boring beer. Lots of pilseners are better.
