Not to be confused with the Devil's Moon Weizenbock which was the winner of the 2001 homebrew competition. My wife liked this one a lot more than I did, but I can appreciate the attempt. Served in a snifter. Dark amber with a thin light beige head and little lacing. The aroma is tart with fruit, alcohol and wheat. The body is on the sticky side with malt, caramel and alcohol. The finish is starts out clean but becomes borderline cloying later. I did like this but it could use a little tweaking.

This is a pretty good Brown Ale, especially given the circumstances under which it was brewed. This is a good example of making lemonade when life hands you lemons, or in this case making beer when life floods your brewpub. Dark brown with a medium thin beige head. The aroma is mostly sweet malt with a roasted nutty character as well. Medium-bodied with a strong malt and caramel flavor. It retains the nutty flavor but the hops come through progressively. The finish is fairly hoppy. This is a solid session brew and goes well with food.

On draught at Ale House #1 (the last keg!). Glad I got to try this before it was gone. This brew is a bright amber color with a gold hue. Medium thin off-white head with thin but sticky lacing. The aroma is well-hopped. A little on the thin side with a decent hops kick, along with a little malt and fruit as well. The finish is lasting and I detected a little sour apple flavor in it along with the hops. A good beer to accompany a game of darts at the brewpub.

Meh. I am glad I only purchased a sample of this between glasses of Glenlenny's Scotch Ale. I did so because I knew I am not a fan of fruit beers. The beer pours a hazy orange-gold color with a thin white head. Lacing is very thin and quick as well. Aroma is all raspberry. Light-bodied and crisp, luckily the raspberry flavor is not as strong in the flavor as it is in the aroma. There is a little wheat and hops flavor there as well. The finish is crisp and lightly hopped. Still, I would not get this beer again, as Barley's has much better to offer.

I haven't had too many dark wheat beers, and while this is a decent summer beer it's not something I would get often considering all the better brews Barley's has to offer. Pours a dark orangish-red with a thin light beige head. Very little lacing. Strong wheat aroma. Relatively light-bodied, with wheat and fruit flavors. Finish is kind of crisp, but overall I found this beer to be a little simple.

Tasted at Barley's 4th Annual Robert Burns Dinner & Robert Burns Scottish Export Ale Tapping Jan 25th. Named after the brewmaster at Barley's Smokehouse, you have to be pretty sure of the quality of something to name it after yourself. This is a very good ESB. Dark orangish-brown with a medium off-white head and some lacing. Aroma of floral hops with a little sweet malt thrown in for balance. Flavor is nicely bitter with a great sweet touch at the end. I'm sorry I went so long without trying this.

Rerate 12/30/02: I don't think I appreciated this beer enough the last time I had it, because I enjoyed it immensely this year. I am not sure if they upped the alcohol since Ohio laws changed, or if my palate has grown. Either way, this is a great beer. The flavors of chocolate, malt and alcohol make for a wonderful winter brew. 2/10/02 (3.7): Strong aroma and subdued taste with a rich, dark color. This was served colder than I expected it to be but I was impressed with the balanced flavor.

Tasted at Barley''s 10th Anniversary Party on November 21st. This beer was a dark amber color with a very thin beige head. Nutty and toasty aroma. Complemented my meatloaf very well as it was a tart and crisp. Not the best Barley''s has to offer but above average.

400 beers and no end in sight. Tasted at Barley''s 10th Anniversary Party on November 21st. I have been waiting awhile to try this one, especially since I have heard tales of people visiting family in Columbus over the holidays just to get this beer. While I was a little let down, it was still a very good seasonal. Dark amber color. Spiced aroma of ginger with some hops. A little thinner than I would have hoped, and I think I should have let it warm a little to let the flavor come out more. Either way I will get another shot because I took home a growler.

Tasted at Barley''s 10th Anniversary Party on November 21st. Cask-conditioned version. Poured a light chestnut color with a thin tan head. Strong malty/oat aroma. Very powerful flavor and alcohol content was very evident. Very malty with a little caramel, and it actually had a slightly bitter finish. Overall a very interesting brew.
