Shaker pint draft at the brewpub in Columbus, Ohio. The pour is a deeply hazed blood orange with a small white head. The aroma is the strong fruit of the blood orange, along with grain wheat, some light clove yeast, and a touch of lemon citrus. The taste is blood orange, the fruit dominates initially, followed by some bitterness from the peel, turns to the wheat grain, and finishes with a hint of clove - aftertaste is more orange peel. The palate is light bodied, pleasant unfiltered mouth feel, lowish carbonation, a minor note of diacetyl (this grew some as it warmed, showing oak and butter) in the muted fruit finish. Thirst quenching, fun beer.

Sample at Barley’s Smokehouse. The beer is a clear dark amber color with a medium thick beige head that diminishes steadily. Stringy lacing on the glass. Aroma of caramel malt, citrus and a touch of bourbon. Medium body with flavors of sweet malt, fruit and subtle oaky bourbon. The finish is fruity with an earthy, oaky aftertaste. I was admittedly not expecting much from a barrel-aged ESB but this exceeded my expectations.
