Poured into a taster showing coffee brown with thick transparent rims and lightly tanned films around the edges. The nose shows a lot of roasted ground coffee but of light intensity. The palate is light bodied with lightly smooth carbonation. Flavors of very subtle latte towards the end and a moderately tart note in the middle. Roasted coffee notes again on the linger. Light and quaffable stout.

Poured into a plastic cup on the Shinkansen showing dark caramel brown with almost no filtration or head, sparse white foam on rims. The nose shows a sweet tea like nose with light hints of malt and not much else. The palate is light bodied and moderately carbonated. Flavors of sweet earl grey and malt. Barely any bitterness. Once again another British style IIPA that probably didn’t need to be made.

Poured into a plastic cup on the Shinkansen showing dark brown, barely any filtration, and light carbonation on the sides with no head. The nose shows a lot of grainy malts with light notes of pineapple and a little mango. The palate is lightly carbonated and medium to full bodied. Flavors of balanced malt and some light cannabis with a light bitterness. Very british in style, subtle yet easy to drink with no flaws but nothing outstanding.

Bottle from Tanakaya. Pours a pitch black with almost no head. Funky Belgian yeast aromas all over the nose, with light roasted malt and cacao. Dry mouthfeel with a light, roasty body. Yuzu rushes in but isn’t overwhelming. Dry finish with a lingering yuzu juiciness.

2016 re-rate: Huge vanilla nose with milk chocolate and bit of roasted cacao nib. Light bodied and feels more porter-like. Tons of coffee mixed with some creamy lactose notes on the palate. More vanilla. Sweet finish with a touch of dryness from the coffee. Better than I remembered. Hand pump at CBM Koenji. Deep brown with no head. Big roasted coffee aromas with a huge dose of rich, creamy cacao. Body is thin and watery, but the coffee notes are there and dominate with roasted coffee bitterness. Finish is quick with a little coffee and chocolate left on the palate, but doesn’t really stick. Flavors are there, but body and finish were a tad weak. --- Beer merged from original tick of Minoh Coffee Stout on 29 Nov 2015 at 13:47 - Score: 6

Bottle from Tanakaya. Pours a deep brown with a small, half-finger of beige foam. Cacao, roasted malt, coffee, wood and grassy hop notes. Thin, watery body but still hides the abv fairly well. Very bitter finish. Drinks more like a hoppy porter. --- Beer merged from original tick of Boss Zaru IPA (ボスざるIPA) on 28 Nov 2015 at 21:17 - Score: 7
