Bottle. Hop Hideout, Sheffield. Clear, dark brown. Messy, bubbly, lasting, light brown head. A bit viscous, and leggy. Alway a good sign. Coffee bean. 70% + dark chocolate. Quite tart, in other words. Some soy. Some savoury. Drinks rich, tart, smooth, with some nutty sweet redeeming qualities. Full bodied, with light carbonation. Finishes dry, light tart, and light, nutty, roasty bitter. Big beer, that’s very drinkable.

Bottle from Yamaoka. Minoh Kozaru Session IPA is a beer I’ve been meaning to try since last year. It pours a light gold with a lovely west coast hop nose of herbs & fruits. Light but soft bodied, the taste is sharply bitter, earthy, pine then a light sweet fruitiness. A solid Session IPA.

On tap at CBM Koenji. Served in a shaker pint. Slightly hazy pale golden straw color with a small white head. Big aromas of white grapefruit and citrus. Slightly grassy character as well. Bitter on the palate. Great lively carbonation. Slightly peppery on the palate as well. Bitter finish but not overly so. On tap at Craft Beer Market Jimbocho. Served in an English pint glass. Pitch black with a thin tan head. Aromas of vegetable, toasted malt, hops and faint ginger on the nose. Thin and watery mouthfeel but the taste is nice. An interesting combination of lactic acid and arugula with some cheese in there. Toasted and peppery notes as it comes to room temperature. 2014 Spring on tap at Craft Beer Market Jimbocho. Served in a snifter. Deep amber color with a pinkish white carbonated head. Strong grape/muscat smell with hints of currants and blackberry and wheat. Taste is grape-forward. Quite unbalanced, and drinks more like a cheap carbonated wine cooler. On tap at Vector Beer in Shinjuku. Served in a shaker pint. Nice hazy yellow color with a modest white head. Yuzu aroma is strong and out in front of coriander and pepper. The yuzu really stands out on the palate and the pepper comes out as the beers settles into room temperature. 330ml bottle from Deguchiya in Naka-Meguro. Poured into a stemmed tulip. Oil black with a slight purple hue and nice tan head. Roasted malt, dark roasted coffee and slight cacao aromas present. Burned coffee, toffee and a slight vegetable quality present on the tongue. Really well balanced sweet maltiness. Rich and creamy mouthfeel while still being light-bodied. Handpump at Gremlin. Golden yellow with no head. Light tropical fruit and grapefruit nose with some cracker like malts. Bitter and citrusy on the palate. One dimensional IPA. 330 ml bottle. Pours dirty copper, some foam, looks hazy and thick. Aroma has some herbal hops that have slightly tropical touch, I would say this feels too grassy - but the hops are definitely there. As they should be. Taste is thick, slowly flowing resinous pine needle nectar. Rough as it is, bit sweeter malt body for the backbone. Works well for me, hops are alive and kicking, I am getting my dose.
