On tap for Ant N Bee’s 2nd Anniversary party. My god, this is a thing of beauty. Rich, dark, mildly sweet, big coffee flavors, but never over the top. In the background is dark chocolate and decent roastiness. Alcohol well hidden, well balanced with moderately aggressive hoppiness. Lingering coffee and dark chocolate finish. Pure yum. Five people I was with ordered this beer and everyone said this was the beer of the night. Fantastic.

Draught at Tenma. Nice citrus hop nose with crackery pilsner malts. Sweet malt flavor is very well balanced by the cascade hops. Nice citrus, good bitterness. Crisp and delicious. Very well done.

Bottled. Hazy golden, mid sized head. Phenolic doughy nose. Sweetish with light-medium body and rounded mouthfeel. Laid back malt character with plenty of dough. Low hop rate, and notes of glue. Low bitterness.

From the cask at Higobashi. Cloudy light brown with lace. Malty nose, caramel, a little butter, fruity—not clearly ume. Fruity, sweet, tangy flavor with a bitter finish. Nice ume tang, but there could be more. If I wasn’t told it was ume, I might not have guessed. Too much diacetyl as well. Nice hop finish, though almost no hop nose or flavor. Quite sweet. Needs a bit of tweaking to bring out the sour ume flavors more.

Draught at Craft Beer Live 2012. Dark brown with a medium tan head. Earthy nose with cocoa and a bit of raisin. Chocolate-cocoa flavor, nice earthy hops, fruity, dried fruits. A bit phenolic. Nice earthy hoppiness and great balance and drinkability.

Draught at Beer Belly Tenma. Cloudy blond color with a fine head. Nose of pilsner malt, yeast, spicy Belgian yeast, grassy hops. Yeasty, somewhat sweet flavor, with good bitterness. A bit too yeasty, but nice balabce and very drinkable.

Draught at JCBF 2012. Fruity, sweet, honey flavor with spicy Belgian yeast but very nice, strong hopping. Nice palate, decent flavor and nose, with a peppery, hoppy finish. A bit unbalanced, with the hops surprising and fun but the Belgian aspect not perfect. Enjoyable though.

Bottle - A fruity flowery aroma, with a muddy amber hue. Malty tones with a strong yeasty after-taste. A bitterness is the only thing that would make me call this an IPA.

Cask version at Beer Belly Real Ale Month. Nose of biscuity malt and grassy hop, with a bit of unwanted diacetyl. Cloudy gold with a nice, thick head. Spicy malt flavor with great hops, earthy and grassy, some peach, and good spicy yeast. Huge bitterness. A bit unrefined, but good malt and good hops.
