Deep translucent red body, thin/medium clumping tan head. Strong roasted malt aroma. Somewhat tangy body, dominated by woody, roasty malts and a touch of earthy hops. Bitter, acidic finish. Tight carbonation for a stout. This is average across-the-board.

Clear deep copper red body, big puffy light cream head. Metallic, earthy, hoppy nose with rough grain notes hiding in the background. Very dry body, mostly earthy hops, toasty and without much caramel or fruit development that I expect from the style. A couple more sips and it’s apparent that there really isn’t much flavor at all. Ugh. A waste of money.

From what I hear, a new beer, and one that’s going to take over the market from Killian’s Irish Red... well go ahead, I don’t know many people drinkin’ Killians. Anyway, could this take over? Sure... it’s virtually the same. Same plain, malty taste, with a hint of metal. I was not overly impressed here.

Cask at GBBF08. Sweet roasted aroma. Hazy brown colour, small white head. The flavour is a little malty with some mold. Mild, but has more flavour than a bitter. 6 3 6 3 13

Very dark read. Very large head. Some hop aroma. Flavor is sweet carmel as the description says. Think Newcastle with more body.

(500 ml bottle, bought in Denmark). Colour is black (= very dark brown), very good and creamy tan head, leaves a nice lacing. Lovely roasted coffee-like aroma with notes of unrefined cane sugar. Flavour is all roast barley with coffee notes, not particularly complex but still very good. Dry aftertaste. An excellent alternative to GBM (Guinness/Beamish/Murphy’s).

Bottled (BB 09/2004)
Dark copper-red with a good tanned head and lace. Slightly fruity and sharp aroma. Balanced mouthfeel between malts and hops with toffee notes. Finishing a bit watery and then giving some late bitterness. Drinkable but easy to forget.

Very light roasted aroma with some hop (?) bitterness. Opaque black color, whipped cream brown head, relatively big bubbles. Subtle coffee and toffee notes, cane sugar sweetness, chocolate and coffee aftertaste. Light-bodied, creamy mouthfeel. Pleasant, has what the average Guinness lacks.
