Bottle 12 fl oz from Argonaut Liquors in Denver, on April 5, 2014.Black color, teal to tan head. Acidic, light vinegar, some roasted notes scent. Acidic, light roasted taste. Acidic aftertaste. Fizzy mouthfeel, low to very low bitterness.

Tap at CS taproom - dark ruby with a thick, sudsy head - aromas of wood, moderate acidity, dough, chocolate, mild oak - a little thin bodied - flavor is moderately acidic (acetic acid), which covers up the some of the other qualities of the beer (oak, chocolate, toffee) - the alcohol is in no way apparent, so kudos there - the sad thing is that the acidic character is far to strong and covers up the other compexities of the beer - this seems to be a fairly common problem for this brewer - infection - sometimes works in their favor - often times doesn’t.

Tap at the CS taproom - seriously heavy and rich brew - slick mouthfeel, low carbonation - nose of bourbon, raisin, prune, oak/tannic character - flavors of bourbon, vanilla, raisin, spicy oak, moderate alcohol - the bourbon/booze is a little strong, but the beer still manages to stay smooth, despite the high abv - nicely done for something so strong.

Lightly hazy gold - surprisingly nice and balanced wild ale, with equal notes of brett funk and acetic acidity (but the latter is quite mild) - mild grain, light peachy lactic qualities - subtle wheat flavors - overall dry, mild funkiness throughout (cheese, basement), as well as mildly oaky, tannic, white wine character - nicely done - well-balanced.

Tap at CS taproom - clear darl amber - flavor and aroma are moderately sour and acidic - a bit of roast and toasted grains - mild sour yeast and malt - a bit of cherry and tobacco - mostly sour, with a light mineral note - pretty weak.

Bottle @ home, picked up at Wilbur’s quite a while back. Pours a black appearance with a thin light brown head. Big anise, vinous, dark grape, tangy, tar, a bit smoky aroma. Goopy, chewy, black licorice, fig, dark grape, fig flavor. Ehhh.

Draught at Old Chicago in Boulder, on October 8, 2012Clear pale straw yellow color, big white head. Dry, herbal, malty taste. Medium mouthfeel, very dry medium bitterness. Dry herbal scent.

Bottle @ home. Purchased in one year ago. This fucker shot off like a mofo. Two ounces salvaged from a bomber and shit all over my parents carpet. Gracias. Dark brown appearance with 15oz of head. Tangy, infected, dark berry, roasty chocolate aroma. Tangy, dark berry, sour roasty malty flavor. Infected and fucked up.

Bottle @ home. Crystal clear, light golden orange appearance with an off white head. Rich hay, straw, a touch fruity, grassy aroma. Somewhat lemon fruity, grassy, bland straw, pale malty flavor. Bleh.

Bomber - who the hell makes a 6.3% kolsch? - had I know this, I probably would not have bought it - hazy gold with a soapy lace (why is my kolsch cloudy?) - the abv shows in the flavor, with a bit of alcohol apparent, making things a little harsh - the body is fairly hefty for the style and the yeast in here does’t help - kind of doughy - toasty grains, buttery diacetyl, some peppery hops - tastes kind of like a full bodied golden ale - yeast, sweetness and filmy texture left behind on the tongue - not at all the light refreshing, quaffable beer you want it to be - and what it IS is pretty darn messy, too, so I can’t even really enjoy it even without considering the style designation.
