bottle from coopmad hazy yellow, very small white head. mild aroma, water, malts, faint sweet malts. not much going on. flavor is malty, strange leathery bitterness, not sure what they are trying to brew. the bitterness is somewhat off, like, somewhat herbal, perhaps like a spelt beer or hemp beer, but then again, also has notes of burnt plastic. one of the least interesting beers i have tasted from branstein. the other braunstein reinterpretations of the original 5 gaarde beers have been very good, but this one.. try again please.

clear dark orange to golden, small orange head. sweet malty, caramelly, syruppy aroma, some dusty hops, quite bittersweet, not at all dry. aroma is more sort of like a double-ipa than a crisp fresh ipa. But then - it reminds me well enough of english style india pale ale and that's what the bottle says, so you could argue it is quite true to style, just don't expect an american ish ipa. flavor is quite bitter, hops bitterness dominates, then some malty sweetness and bitterness, then flowers and dried fruits ending with alcohol bitterness and hop bitterness. Not bad, but does taste like it has been stored for too long, although probably produced may 12th and consumed july 25th. same year. considering 5 gaarde is usally on the cheap end of supermarket macro brews, this is okay for the money, you could run into worse 6% beers than this one. If you like english india pale ale you might even enjoy it a bit.
