Description
We pour our hearts into our passionate pursuit of bottle-conditioned farmhouse ales.
Fall in love with our special beers —extraordinary is at the heart of what we do best!

Located in Marquette, Michigan, we’re solely focus on crafting world-class farmhouse and barrel-aged real ale. Our name reflects the intersection of Old-World process with New-World taste and premium ingredients.

Not just another craft brewery…

Michigan is home to over 300 craft breweries. So, why do we need another one? Here are four ways that Barrel + Beam is different:

Family of Ales

Barrel + Beam opened in January 2018 as the region’s lone farmhouse ales brewery; a genre that allows a range of flavors, textures and nuance grounded by dry drinkability.

Michigan Sourced Ingredients

The Great Lakes State could just as well be called The Great Fruit State. Michigan grown apples, peaches, cherries, blueberries, raspberries, among others, find their place in our seasonal and limited releases. The growth in Michigan’s hop, malt and brewer’s yeast industries, combined with our freshwater, has allowed for 100% Michigan sourced ale to be crafted. Ale with pure Michigan terroir is a cornerstone of Barrel + Beam.

Oak Aging

Aging in oak wine barrels provides the ultimate environment for house culture to thrive and produce the most refreshing, complex and distinct ales. Many of our ales spend a year or longer in oak, often with an addition of Michigan fruit.

Bottle Conditioning

This finishing touch is the only way to ensure fine, Champagne-like carbonation and perfectly soft foam when poured. Like wine, beer that is bottle conditioned often gets better with time.

Can from Livonia Liquor. Pours a clear, glowing straw gold with a finger of foam that dissipates. Lovely saison yeast focused nose with lemon, pineapple and light mint notes on the nose. More of the same on the palate. Notes of clove, crackery malt and mineral notes with the same tropical notes from the hops. Highly drinkable and refreshing. Reminds me a lot of Blackberry Farm (which is a good thing!).

Can from Livonia Liquor. Pours a clear silver with lots of bubbles, but little to no head. Light apple juice aromas, but doesn't really go anywhere...not as good as the Rightful cider in my opinion.

375 mL bottle from Ridgeview Liquor, 5/14/22. Very dark brown, poor retention. Aroma of stong sour funk, oak, whiskey, hint of vanilla and sweet plum. Taste is caramel, roast, plum, lemon. Mildly tart. Stout itself is kinda tame. A bit thin. Lingering bright tartness. Nice.

Pint can from Ridgeview Liquor, 12/30/21. Hazy yellow, thin fizzy off-white head, poor retention. Aroma of bready malt, yeast, citrus, vinous notes, white grape. Taste is citrus, lemon, bready malt, vinous notes. A bit thin. Crisp, refreshing. Perhaps December 30th is not the right venue, but, this did leave me a bit wanting.

Can from 8DP. Pours a clearish gold with some soapy white head that dissipates quickly. Light citrus and wheat aromas with some light notes of oak. Palate is very similar with a smooth, muted flavor profile. Easy drinking, but carbonation is a bit soft.
