Description
We pour our hearts into our passionate pursuit of bottle-conditioned farmhouse ales.
Fall in love with our special beers —extraordinary is at the heart of what we do best!

Located in Marquette, Michigan, we’re solely focus on crafting world-class farmhouse and barrel-aged real ale. Our name reflects the intersection of Old-World process with New-World taste and premium ingredients.

Not just another craft brewery…

Michigan is home to over 300 craft breweries. So, why do we need another one? Here are four ways that Barrel + Beam is different:

Family of Ales

Barrel + Beam opened in January 2018 as the region’s lone farmhouse ales brewery; a genre that allows a range of flavors, textures and nuance grounded by dry drinkability.

Michigan Sourced Ingredients

The Great Lakes State could just as well be called The Great Fruit State. Michigan grown apples, peaches, cherries, blueberries, raspberries, among others, find their place in our seasonal and limited releases. The growth in Michigan’s hop, malt and brewer’s yeast industries, combined with our freshwater, has allowed for 100% Michigan sourced ale to be crafted. Ale with pure Michigan terroir is a cornerstone of Barrel + Beam.

Oak Aging

Aging in oak wine barrels provides the ultimate environment for house culture to thrive and produce the most refreshing, complex and distinct ales. Many of our ales spend a year or longer in oak, often with an addition of Michigan fruit.

Bottle Conditioning

This finishing touch is the only way to ensure fine, Champagne-like carbonation and perfectly soft foam when poured. Like wine, beer that is bottle conditioned often gets better with time.

Capped 375 mL bottle from Ridgeview Liquor, 8.2.21. Hazy red thin head that fades quickly. Aroma of sweet cherry, cherry chapstick, mild funk. Taste is pepper, funk, tart cherry. Bright. Nice.

Can from Livonia Liquor. Pours a clearish straw gold with a finger of white foam. Clove, grain, mineral, lemon and light hay aromas dominate the nose. As it warms up some peppercorn and dried banana notes. Smooth, with a mineral dryness and lingering peppercorn and clove. Another homerun from B+B.

Can from Livonia Liquor. Pours a clearish gold with two fingers of foam that lingers. Classic European aromas of mineral, horseblanket and dried lemon peel...as it warms some dried honey and tea notes. Dry and bretty on the palate with more dried honey and dried pineapple. Perfect carbonation. This is one of the best saisons I've had in Michigan. Excellent.

Can from Livonia Liquor. Pours a hazy, pale straw gold color with silver highlights and a finger of white foam that dissipates. Lovely brett focused nose with some dried orange zest, lemon curd and horse blanket aromas. More of the same on the palate with a touch of lime. A tad lower carbonation than I prefer, but very good table beer. Went well with dinner.

Hazy watermelon pink-orange body, effervescent white head. Nose tart, lactic, with cherry, cherry skin, modest sweetness, and some barnyard/cobwebby funk. Sharp, tart, semi-dry body, lots of bite and noseburn, with tart cherry and hints of cheese rind, but nothing too wild or funky. Hey, a real Michigan sour!

Ooo yeah, that’s a good one from these reliable peeps. Nice and smooth, round-edged yet subtly crisp, and full of “it.” Yessir, I should get paid for these great descriptions.

Bottle from Livonia Liquor. Pours a clear copper with a full 2 fingers of off-white foam that lingers. Lovely bready malt, Belgian yeast with nice fruit esters and peppercorn aromas. More peppercorn on the palate, clove and light banana-like esters. Dry finish with more of the same fruity Belgian esters and peppercorn. Really great Biere de Garde.

Bottle from Livonia Liquor. Pours a clear silver, pear yellow with a small bit of carbonation that dissipates quickly. Dried apple, yeast and oak aromas on the nose. Lingering tart and sweet apple flavors on the palate. Nice balance and not overly watery. Enjoyable.
