Can from Jak's Parkcrest, Burnaby
Blond colour, seems pale, with small head, it has some chill haze (3.5). Aroma of grass, hay, raw malt, husks; I was expecting more grass from an Hallertau derivate. Dry, the body is weaker than the average Pilsner/Helles in Germany, the malt offers some breadcrust (white bread), some raw cereals; balanced bitterness, but just some herbaceous character, lightly spicy, not the grassy expression of the best Hallertau; it has very light fruity notes.
I noticed that Aurum has been around for at least 13 years, and yet I count just 9 beers brewed with it, to date (on RB), maybe the hop is not spectacular…
Anyway, the beer is quite good.

473mL can, pours a hazy golden with a medium white head. Nose is quite grainy, with toasted crunchy cereal grains, a pronounced earthiness, and crisp biscuity malt. Flavour is much the same, with a bright, earthy, grainy character upfront from the buckwheat. Fairly crisp, not very hoppy, just very earthy and grainy. It's alright, a little too dirty.

Clearish straw gold with a frothy white head. Funky, farty and grain husk. Bone dry and grain husks. Weird and not in a good way.

Very nice creamy foam on a clear light gold body. Really good funky cereal aroma, slightly weedy, varnished wicker furniture on a Caribbean island soaked in bee pollen. Taste is a smooth cereal soaked in honey, smooth a refreshing. On and on in the sun, a satisfactory pilsner, reminiscent of farmland ales lost to years prior.

On tap at Darby's, pours a clear blonde with a small white head. Aroma brings out crackery and cereal malts. Flavour is grainy, with straw and cereal malts, with crisp crackery malt. Grainy and lacking any crispness or punch. Pretty lame pils.

Poured from the tap. Clear-ish blonde with small white head. Doughy malt, very feint sour yeast.

Draught at the Alibi Room, Vancouver
Blond colour, chill haze. Light aroma of bread and wet paper. Gentle carbonation, it would maybe boost the malt flavour, if there were any, actually it's very simple, just a faint flavour of malt, and the hopping doesn't offer much either, and eventually it ends quite flat in all terms, short finish. Clean, but leaves much to be desired.

Can. Hazy, not much head. Not the most pilsnery of pilsner appearances. Smells yeasty, too. Something happened in the fermentation. On the palate, more yeasty than anything else. Doughy, the malts are not hitting at all, and the strisselspalt is nearly absent. Don't know if this wasn't lagered long enough - seems like it wasn't - or not mashed appropriately, but this seems way off in execution.

Poured from the tap. Clear gold with white head. Tons of grain with a very subtle hint of motueka. Fine, but boring.

473mL can, pours a clear copper golden with a small white head. Aroma is gentle, with bready malt, cereal and straw. Flavour is dry and grainy, with cereal, straw and biscuity malt. Grainy and crisp, with a light lingering bitterness. Pleasant stuff.
