Associated Venue: Village Brewery
Some of the best things happen over beer. Ideas are born, friendships forged, deals struck, communities built. That’s how Village Brewery began, friends sharing beers and dreams. Around the table, we had close to a century and a half of brewing experience. One of us was a legendary Canadian brewmaster. Naturally the talk turned to the art and craft of better beer, then to secret sources of malts and hops. By last call we had dreamed up a true community brewery. A brewery that would support Calgary’s artists and craftspeople. A brewery that would create the excellent ales and lagers our friends and neighbors deserve. That talk over beer started the brewery that handcrafted the fine brew you hold in your hand. Please join our table, lift a pint and salute the Village of Calgary. It takes a Village to raise a beer. And a beer to raise a Village.

(Can, 0.473l, thanks VastActiv, at VastActiv, 20240802) The beer poured golden and hazy. Its head was medium sized and white. Aroma had fruitiness, floralness and spices. Palate was medium bodied with medium carbonation. Flavours were fruitiness, spiciness, malts and bitterness. Aftertaste was spicy and bitter. Unpleasant blend of spices and beer.

Black with a medium light brown lacing head. Aroma of roasted malt, chocolate and some dark fruit sense. Sweet with a good chocolate, dark fruit and coffee finish. Like

Dullish and hazy. Medium head. Smells mostly worty. The blonde had more hop aroma. The palate is low bitterness, worty and slightly fruity. I guess they were aiming for a more aromatic hop note but it actually comes across pretty light.

473ml can, sold to me by djoeye. Firm tan head with good retention over a deep black body, scattered lacing. Inviting aromas of roasted toast with chocolate moments. Well blended taste profile of liquorice and chocolate, with a little spicy support. Espresso moments towards a long lived, nicely roasted finish. Well bodied. Good sipper on a national day like this.
