Description
Our brewery's name was inspired by the stories of Rudyard Kipling’s travels across Canada and his famous quote “This part of the country seems to have all hell for a basement, and the only trap door appears to be in Medicine Hat. And you don’t even think of changing the name of your town. It’s all your own and the only hat of its kind on earth.” – Rudyard Kipling 1907

We take pride in our community, and we've worked with a variety of local businesses, tradespeople and artists to make our dream a reality. We're excited to let you know that we're now open for business. We can't wait for you to come in and taste what we've created (if you're over 18 of course).

On tap at Hell's Basement, pours black with a small tan head. Aroma is not all that strong on the coffee compared to the base beer, with gentle earthy coffee and dusty dry cocoa. Flavour is more expressive on the coffee, with plenty of earthy coffee, a hint of cocoa, and little residual sweetness. Earthy coffee on the finish. Decent.

On tap at Hell's Basement, pours black with a small tan head. Aroma expresses oats, toasted malt and some earthiness. Flavour is hearty, bringing out oats, some dry cocoa and a touch of coffee. Medium-bodied, with a dry finish. Not overly interesting, but competently made.

On tap at Hell's Basement, pours totally clear like water, no colour, no head. Nose is cloyingly sweet, like a cloyingly sweet artificial syrup of some kind. Flavour is surprisingly not that sweet, with seltzery notes and artificial syrup. Not sure what they were going for here. Awful.

On tap at Hell's Basement, pours a dark brown with a small beige head. Aroma brings out earthy rye, bready malt and a bit of bittering hops. Flavour is along the same lines, with toasted malt, spicy rye and some earthy hop bitterness. Light sweetness on the malt profile. It's alright.

On tap at Hell's Basement, pours a clear blonde with a small white head. Nose brings out dank hops, a little pineapple, and earthy notes. Flavour is more expressive on the pineapple, with subdued earthy hops and a touch of dankness. Not much lactose or milkshake character - it's got better clarity. Pleasant enough.

On tap at Hell's Basement, pours a clear pale blonde with a small white head. Aroma brings out some seltzery notes, a little grass, and biscuity malt. Flavour has decent clarity, with grassy hops, straw and seltzery notes. Would like more hops and crispness, but it's clean and competently made.
