Bottle, best before November 2015, drunk 6/10/15
As one of biggest opponents of Shityard and Alan Pugsley’s evil empire and his ruinous effect of buying out small Maine breweries and centralizing the brewing at Shipyard (and thus ruining the beer), I was loathe to drink this. And to clarify, I’m not suggesting Pugsley is aggressively trying to buy out small breweries (I don’t know if he is or is not), but the fact remains that their yeast and, primarily, backwater, shameful brewing practices produce mostly terrible, horribly diacetyl-ridden beers.
Anyways, it’s too bad Peak voluntarily contracts out of Shipyard. The beer dosent seem so bad; the amarillo are quite well-done, light, lemony, succulent and not overdone. The honey and cracker malts are perhaps a touch too sweet and the malts a little dominant overall. But these are fairly minor details compared to the diacetyl that is rampant. Even from the aroma you know what you’re in for. That this has been going on at this brewery for this long is just shameful. Do the brewers taste these beers?? I’ve got to imagine yes. Guess they just don’t care that much? That lack of care is reflected in their product, of course. Ok rant over. Do the beer world a favor and don’t buy beer brewed at Shipyard (my girlfriend bought this, I would never).
