About
Maui Brewing Company was founded by Garrett Marrero and Melanie Oxley. They started as a single brew-pub, a small restaurant that served its own locally brewed beer in January 2005. Demand for the beer outgrew the space available in the brewpub and in 2007, Maui Brewing Company started producing and packaging beer out of a separate production facility. In 2012 Marrero and Oxley opened yet another larger production facility, which increased their capacity from 18,000 barrels of beer to almost 40,000 barrels.

(Can 35,5 cl) Courtesy of Bierkönig. Pours black and opaque with a creamy, light brown head. Lightly burned malt aroma with an edge of coconut. Medium body with an edge of lightly sweet, burned malt and some discreet but absolutely present coconut accents that aren’t stickingly sweet but actually quite refreshing in a piquant manner. There’s a lightly bitter malt astringency in the finish. Quite interesting. 131007

Can. Black beer with a big tan head. Roasty, slight chocolate aroma. Roasty flavor melllowed with some vanilla and nuts with sweet malt backing. Lingering sweet rich malt with vanilla and nuts. Medium body. Easy drinking.

Pours a very deep mahogany with a medium, tan head. Aroma is pretty heavy on the roasted malts, coffee, toasted coconut, molasses, and chocolate. Medium, sliky smooth body. Mmm. Roasted malts, chocolate, coffee, some toasted coconut, and a mild molasses finish. I like the coconut in this porter, though I wish it was a bit more pronounced in the flavor. The flavors sorta fall apart in the finish, with it ending a little too bittersweet. I actually did enjoy this porter, though.

I debated buying a CAN of this for a good five minutes, decided to give it a try. Pours a nice looking hazy orange with a medium, fluffy head. Aroma strikes me quick and strong. HOPS! Pine, citrus, grapefruit is heavy, some sweet malts in the back, as well. O man, the flavor does not dissapoint. Strong hop bite. Grapefruit, pine and the caramel malts return with a small appearance. Smooth, but with plenty of bite...if that makes sense. An excellent IPA, especially on this hot Tokyo afternoon. This beer may have cured my can reservation.

I just walked into Starbucks and smelled their latest Frapaccino, Coconut Chocolate. Not too sweet. Roasted coconuts in the mouth. Not well balanced. Not enough hops. Coconut chocoloate finish. Japanese coconut porters kill this.

Help someone has just taken a sack of dry hops and put it over my head. I see, hear and feel nothing but EKG. I love it. The most defined hop aroma I have ever smelt on a beer. And people slam cans???? Very big hoppy mouth, with a malt backbone, but efforts seem to be in the aroma and not in the bitterness. Just kinda falls apart at the end from being the best IPA ever.

Can. Amber beer with a huge off-white head. Big grapefruit aroma with some pine and caramel. Grapefruit and pine flavor with big caramel backing - hops aren’t as flavorful or as bitter as in the aroma. Medium body. Lingering grapefruit with a bit of earthiness. Nice.

Can as an exra from fordest. Pours black with a small head that turns into a hairline halo lacing. Aroma is weird at first, lots of toastiness and roast. But then comes this weird zing of fruitiness thats very sharp, must be he coconut. Taste is less on the weird cocnut and more traditionally a roasty robust porter. Finish has that sharp fruitiness that almost reiminscent of barrel aging. Definitely enjoyable but no more than one.

Slightly hazy straw colour. Firm bread crusty malts in the nose. The body is full, leading with pale malt flavours, and finishing with a light noble hop accent. Clean and rounded, a nice helles.
