Description
Over 10 years ago, Rob and Kelly Horn packed their bags and made the trek from a small town in New Jersey to another small town on the opposite coast: Olympia, Washington. Their obsession with the craft beer scene was immediate. After years of home brewing they decided to make it official and opened a tiny brewery in August of 2014.

Triceratops Brewing Company (with the last name Horn and three awesome kids, was there really any other choice?) began its brewing operations out of the Horn’s home garage. Three years later the couple opened a Tumwater tasting room. Since the grand opening in June of 2017, the brewery has had a steady flow of great customers, good friends, and craft beer lovers.

Draft pour at Hop and Hound. Cloudy pale golden pour with plenty of mousse foam head. Subtle wheat and mixed grain aroma. Decently inviting for the style. Flavor is tons of the advertised wheat. Basically wheat, and nothing else. Has a refreshing side all throughout. Just a touch of spice to the grain. No off flavors or strange sweetness, or anything like that. Straight to the point wheat beer. Not stuck somewhere between a hefe and a wheat beer, so I can get on board with this. Good beer.

Draft 7 oz pour at Triceratops. Dark cola brown, near black pour. Off aroma, sour dark fruit, which seems accidental, and toasty malt. Flavor is overly sweet. A touch sour in the wrong way. Roasted malt, but battled by the sweetness. Bite to it. Seems like something went wrong here. Gave it my best try. Hmmm.

Draft 7 oz pour at Triceratops. I've mentioned in most of my ratings from these guys, that I only had found them at Hop and Hound in Bothell, and how I needed to get down here. Well, finally, here I am. A oale golden, slight haze pour. Vegetable hops dominate here. Aroma and flavor. Harsh and bitter. Rye spice is heavy, and adds to the harshness. Moderate mixed grain, spicy rye, heavy hop bitter finish. A bit of a miss for me, but had good qualities about it.

Medium brown. Thin head. On the nose, chocolate syrup , higher alcohols. Sweet, lots of chocolate, you get some milk stout feel, bit strong though the alcohol isn’t as abrasive as on the nose.

Cloudy, maybe pinkish pale, there’s a fair bit of strawberry, decent balance of malt. Good for what it is. Medium body. Sweetish finish.

Dark amber and hazy. Thin head. Lots of crackery, toasty malt. Same palate...tough to drink, actually, as it comes across as really one-dimensional.

On tap at Triceratops, pours black with a reddish tinge and a small tan head. Aroma is very woody and boozy, with plenty of harsh bourbon, some phenols, medium roast and a hint of lactose. Flavour is abrasive, with loads of what taste like JD-barrels, wood, some phenols, and harsh roast. Abrasive and chaotic, but still alright. Needs refining and better barrels.

On tap at Triceratops, pours an opaque cloudy orange with a small white head. Aroma brings out decent strawberry pith, some juice. Flavour is quite pithy, with the strawberries tasting rather muddy. Bit too yeasty and dirty, but it's okay.

On tap at Triceratops, pours a clear copper golden with a medium beige head. Aroma brings out piney hops, some earthy and herbal notes. Flavour is similar, with a vegetal character that is too dominant. Not an overly pleasant hop expression. Not a fan.
