The building known as the “Old Brewery” was first completed in 1898 and was used to brew Petoskey Sparkle beer until 1915. According to a 1973 article in the Petoskey News, the Petoskey Brewing Company was originally owned by Frank and Garrett Fochtman, A. Bremmeyr and John Zaiger, who also acted as the Brewmaster.
Since closing in 1915, the brewery building has served as retail shops, as warehousing and perhaps even as a goat barn. It wasn’t until 2012, under the new ownership of and complete renovation by Patrick Dowd and Lou Gostinger, that beer once again flowed within the walls of the “Old Brewery”.

Growler thanks to Marty! Pours black with a brown head that lasts throughout the beer. Aroma has a nice rich chocolate note with a good amount of roasted malts and dark grains. Flavor begins full of smooth rich chocolate to start with but finish has more roasted malts which lends a touch of dryness to the finish.
Growler thanks to Marty! Pours a clear earthy amber with an off-white head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has grassy hops with earthy grains and a mossy note. Flavor has wet wood notes with earthy grain and a hint of mowed grass.
On tap at MBGSF 2013. Pours a clear amber with an off-white head. An orange/grapefruit citrus aroma with pine. Flavor has grapefruit and orange, herbal, and pine hops. A bit harsh.
16 oz can. Pours a darker shade of amber, clear with an off-white head. Overripe red and dark fruit aroma with caramel. Toasty maltiness, some raisin and apple in the flavor. A pretty good one.

Flavor has light roast with a bit of sweet chocolate and some berries coming out and a good amount of thyme in the finish.
Growler thanks to Marty! Pours a clear gold with a white head that lasts throughout the beer and laces. Aroma has notes of earthy pine with backing onion as well as a hint of earthy grain. Flavor starts with earthy pine and a grain backing with a bit of pine and onion.
