5th Annual MBG Winter Beer Festival, Grand Rapids. Murky orange body, thin cream head. Caramely nose with brown sugar and light fruit. Fruity body with citrus, clove, and brown sugar. Somewhat tart. Estery finish.

5th Annual MBG Winter Beer Festival, Grand Rapids. Dark opaque brown-black body, thin cream head. Rich coffee nose and body, dry, roasty, with hints of dark chocolate. Nice balance and mouthfeel.

On tap at Old Boys. Hazy orange body, medium off-white head. Hops-forward nose and body, balanced by sweet, bready malt with hints of caramel. The piney, citrusy hops seemed a bit faded, and hints of oxidation were noted. Still, a serviceable IPA.

On tap at Old Boys. Hazy, pulpy medium brown-orange body, thin off-white head. Ester-dominated nose and body, with potent clove and bitter, somewhat medicinal notes in addition to fermented tropical fruits (pineapple and banana). Sweet, somewhat cloying, and a bit flabby. Higher alcohol content would improve balance.

On tap at Old Boys. Dark brown body with reddish highlights, thin buff head. Roasty nose with chocolate notes. Rather dry body, dominated by roasted malts, dark unsweetened chocolate, and a woody acidity. I would have preferred something a bit sweeter or more differentiated in general from their regular oatmeal stout, but this was one of the better beers at the brewery.

And on to the final beer at Old Boys- a "Low Carb" offering sure to placate the masses. Actually this wasn’t half-bad, with light, sweet honey notes making for a pleasant aroma and flavor. Unusually cloudy appearance for a pale lager. Not offensive by any means.
