Description
It all began when Jan-Léonard Moortgat and his wife founded the Moortgat brewery farm in 1871. Around the turn of the century, Moortgat was one of the over 3,000 breweries operating in Belgium. Jan-Leonard experimented by trial and error, and his top-fermented beers were soon greatly appreciated in the brewery's home town of Puurs and far beyond. Before long, the Brussels bourgeoisie was also won over by his beers. Business was booming and Jan-Leonard's two sons, Albert and Victor, joined the company. There was a clear division of labour: Albert became the brewer, Victor was responsible for delivering the beer to Brussels by horse and dray. In 1923 the production of Duvel began with just a few crates. Today, Duvel is enjoyed literally all around the world (in over 50 countries) by countless beer lovers. The beer is still brewed with profound respect for the original recipe and the time it needs to mature

Duvel Mexican BA batch 10
(Aged on Mexican agave spirit barrels)
Bottle shared at tasting. Clear golden color, average sized white head. Aroma is malts, green plants. Flavor is malts, green plants, tequila notes maybe? Agave spirit? Label says so, could it be that I get that in the flavor? Odd flavor but drinkable. Not great but drinkable. 8-5,5-6-6-6

Fles gedeeld door Roelzie, geprobeerd met Benzai en Keukenman. Het is een amberkleurig bier met een beige schuim. Het heeft een aroma van tequila en agave. De smaak is moutig, zacht zoet, fruitig en tequila achtig.

0.33 l can at Ragnarok/K Ivi restaurant. Clear pale golden, large moderately lasting firm frothy white head. Aroma is grainy, bready, freshly hoppy with a touch of herbs and butter. Smooth, creamy, but quite drinkable. Aroma is sweet bread, honey and light butter with a hint of red apple. Finishes dry but with a very light bitterness.

Bottle purchased from Café de Oude Sluis, Rotterdam. Almost clear, deep golden body under a fine white head. Aroma is complex and unusually, super smooth malt, mild toffee, some kind of undefined fruit or herb (Agave), mild wood and surprisingly mild Tequila taste. The alcohol is recognized but not boozy at all. Fine body and long lasting aftertaste. Can’t believe this silk smooth beer at 12% ABV.

Bottle. Gold, an inch of white head. With a little encouragement it fills a Duvel glass. Aroma is herbal and spicy with hay and light dough. Subtle orange and maybe apricot. So it tastes. The spicy bitter end is very well focused. Feels a little bigger than normal Duvel, but like it it's dangerously drinkable.
