Description
It all began when Jan-Léonard Moortgat and his wife founded the Moortgat brewery farm in 1871. Around the turn of the century, Moortgat was one of the over 3,000 breweries operating in Belgium. Jan-Leonard experimented by trial and error, and his top-fermented beers were soon greatly appreciated in the brewery's home town of Puurs and far beyond. Before long, the Brussels bourgeoisie was also won over by his beers. Business was booming and Jan-Leonard's two sons, Albert and Victor, joined the company. There was a clear division of labour: Albert became the brewer, Victor was responsible for delivering the beer to Brussels by horse and dray. In 1923 the production of Duvel began with just a few crates. Today, Duvel is enjoyed literally all around the world (in over 50 countries) by countless beer lovers. The beer is still brewed with profound respect for the original recipe and the time it needs to mature

330 ml bottle. Pours a bright amber with full head. Aromas of dried banana, noble hops, a little stoned fruit and toasty malts. Flavors follow same with fruit and malts rounder and bigger.

330ml bottle from Vanuxeem. Pours gold with a light mist, large pure white head. Aroma is boozy sweet, fruity accents. Curiously not as sweet as standard Duvel, a little smoother, lower carbonation, but still delivers a nice fruity booze laden punch.

This beer was for me not bad at all. I really got a boozy and sharp sensation at the mouth, dry malt, sour, generous side of fruits, mango, peach, hop, not so aromatic for this kind of hop, not bad, of course, 14.06.20, tasting it at Bonfol and buying it at one monoprix, Paris.

Helder goudgeel bier met veel schuim. Smaak is bitter hoppig, zachter en iets zoeter dan de standaard versie. Smaak heeft iets van sinaasappel, hop en abrikoos. Wat mij betreft zelfs beter dan het origineel.

Bottle picked up from Drankgigant.nl webshop, Vlissingen, Netherlands. We had this Friday 1st August 2025. We're still listening to Snapped Ankles but this time it's an earlier album, Come Play the Trees, still cooking/preparing Masala Fish & Chips with Minty Peas from BBC Good Food August. Pours hazy warm gold with a huge billowing creamy head of foam. Well rounded beer, clearly from the Duvel stable with that unmistakable signature taste but more punchy and robust. The aroma is fresh and with clear malty notes, in the mouth smooth and deceptive, the slight increase in abv is noticeable but it's still very easy drinking. Light fruity, the Saaz-Saaz and Styrian Golding hop combination is clearly still doing its thing. Warmer and softer not as bitter as the original, very good.
