Description
It all began when Jan-Léonard Moortgat and his wife founded the Moortgat brewery farm in 1871. Around the turn of the century, Moortgat was one of the over 3,000 breweries operating in Belgium. Jan-Leonard experimented by trial and error, and his top-fermented beers were soon greatly appreciated in the brewery's home town of Puurs and far beyond. Before long, the Brussels bourgeoisie was also won over by his beers. Business was booming and Jan-Leonard's two sons, Albert and Victor, joined the company. There was a clear division of labour: Albert became the brewer, Victor was responsible for delivering the beer to Brussels by horse and dray. In 1923 the production of Duvel began with just a few crates. Today, Duvel is enjoyed literally all around the world (in over 50 countries) by countless beer lovers. The beer is still brewed with profound respect for the original recipe and the time it needs to mature

(Bottle) Hazy golden amber colour with frothy, off-white head. Spicy, malty nose with crisp-bread, banana, apricots, citrus and clove. Spicy, malty, fruity taste with notes of crisp-bread, banana, apricots, orange, clove and a low spicy bitterness in the ifnish. Medium body, quite dry. Tasty and well balanced. Much in line with the original, but with a softer punch. Very nice.

BBT 12/2025. Thinnish bod, med-low carbo. Head good, but bubbles not in mouthf. Med-light sweet, light bitter, hint of warmth. Med woody, coconuty, vanilla, light rumy. Light toffee, nutty. Could use both more depth and width of flavour. Good though.

Bottle. More or less like a regular Duvel, only stronger and more full-bodied. Still quite dryish and lightly vegetal. Nice bitterness level. I like it. 747415 251130

Review based on the BJCP2021 guidelines (style 25A). Bottle 33 cl - Batch L12304 (BB: 12.2026). AROMA: medium hop notes (fresh green, herbal, lime), medium esters (oranges) with a medium-low neutral malt background with slight sweetness. APPEARANCE: light yellow body with micro-particles in suspension giving it an hazy appearance. large white head, beady, with good retention. slight lace formation. TASTE: similar to the aroma with medium hop notes (fresh green, lime), followed by low estery oranges and slight spicy phenolics. soft medium-low to low malt background with a neutral-sweet character. medium bitterness with a slight hoppy and dry finish. MOUTHFEEL: medium body with high carbonation. OVERALL: an interesting variation of a classic.

Bottle @ home. Almost clear golden body under a huge, foamy white head. Aroma of pale malt, white sugar, spicy yeast and hint of citric fruits. Taste is sweet, pale malt, slightly spicy and slightly fruity, balanced alcohol, not boozy. Rather classic Duvel, put perhaps a bit more hops. A nice, well made beer anyway. Fine balance.
