Description
Monasteries have been brewing as far back as the sixth century to provide sustenance and benevolence to the communities they served. Water-borne epidemics during this period were commonplace, and the boiling of beer during the brewing process, made it a far healthier option than the town’s water supply.

So Monks Brewed.

What made monastic breweries different was that the monks brought patience, process and dedication to the practice of brewing. At Monkless, there are no monks, but this is our devotion. We practice patience to perfection in our brewing process, and focus exclusively on Belgian-style ales.

16oz can from Brewers Haven. Clear golden, one finger foamy white head. Grainy, biscuity aroma with a citrusy edge. Taste is bready, light sweetness, bready with a hint of lemon peel. Really solid Pils.

On tap at BitterCreek clear deep amber. Thin off white head. Light toasted malts, faint Belgian yeast character. Almost mistook it for a fest bier. Pleasant and a little noble hop bite at the end.

(Bottle) hazy, bright orange amber color with a medium tall brown head; aroma of stewed fruit, fruitcake, then honey; balanced flavor with a long, light bittersweet and then longer light bitter and mineral finish. Valiant try at a quad, hopefully they will keep working on it and refining it.

Dull and pale, thin head. Appley aroma, candy, odd phenols, seems stuck, maybe orange peel on top but not going to fix a problematic fermentation.

On tap at Chuck's - Seward Park, pours a hazy golden with a small white head. Aroma brings out estery notes, rustic saison yeast, and some stone fruits. Flavour is way too estery, with tons of bubblegum, estery notes, and candi sugar. Way too sweet and estery; poorly utilized yeast. Badly fermented and totally off-base like all their Belgian beers.

(can) clear, bright yellow colour with a small white head; aroma of fruit jelly, candy sugar; balanced flavour with a long, light bitter finish. Not a ‘high’ tripel like the best Belgian stuff, but a decent ‘low’ plebeian stuff :-)
