Bottle, 25cl, at the brewpub. It’s a pitch black beer, topped by a dense light tan head collapsing a bit too soon. The aroma is really intense and pleasant, mostly in the English style, but there’s too much hops to be a true British imperial stout. Molasses, roasted malts, alcohol, coffee, salty licorice, a touch of prunes and some chocolate. It’s really, really full bodied, quite warming, and perhaps a bit too carbonated, but not bothersome. Sweet, with licorice, molasses, coffee, hints of bonfire and smoke even though there’s no smoked or peated malts in the recipe. The finish is pretty bitter, both of the roasted and the hoppy kind. Really lasting. Wow, I’ve had quite a few fine brews from this brewpub, but this one really blew me off. 131212

On tap at Benny’s. A creamy off-white head rises above a hazy amber body. Nice curtains. The aroma is quite fruity, with a malty backdrop. Some grass and pine cones and a very faint vegetal hint. It’s full bodied and soft on the palate, quite dry too, even though it feels a bit sweet in the end. Caramel, dried figs, blue plums, some brown sugar and a nice bitterness in the flavor, the bitterness lasting for quite some time, dealing nicely with the sweetness in the swallow. Overall, sure a nice lager, tasteful and easy drinkable, well worth a revisit as I only had time for one now. 131129

400ml, as Saras Julesnadder, poured from tap at Café Sara. Near clear, brown-red body colour. Filmy layer, nice lacework at the upper level of the glass. Moderate aromas of earthy malts joined by a spicy touch. Cocoa and dark spicy flavours with mild dark chocolate towards the ending. Velvety smooth in the mouth. Fine bodied. A little floury. Satisfying Christmas feel (Oslo 25.11.2013).

400ml, from tap at Café Sara. Patchy tan-coloured head blanketing the glassware. Dark ruby coloured body. Smell of roasted dark malts, mid-sweet and mid-dry. Roasted flavours with hints of coffee and chocolate. Prolonged malt-bitter ending, warming down the swallow. Fine bodied. Very nice porter with an excellent ending (Oslo 25.11.2013).

On tap @ the brewpub. Slightly unclear deep golden/orange body with a medium sized off-white head. Nice and spicy aroma with pale malt, some caramel, cinnamon and quite much ginger. Flavor is sweet malty with some caramel and Christmas spices like aroma. The aroma makes an impression of more spices then actually in flavor. It’s obvious spicy, but nothing too much. Pleasant body and spicy in aftertaste. Nice one. I like ginger when in’s not to intense, this is perfect.
