Tap at Excelsior. Hazy yellow color with a quickly fading head. Malt and citrus hops. Some sweetness from the malt bit the hops provide most of the flavor.

Firkin Fest 2013. Roasted grain aroma with an herbal quality. Light sourness, and more roasted malt. Dry. Flat on the palate, which can be OK in a stout. The flavors here are odd and this did not work out very well, or this firkin was not in prime condition.

Growler shared by my Brother in law. The pour is a clear brown copper golden, with a small off white head. The aroma is caramel malt, nut, and a touch of grass. The taste is a pleasant mix of the caramel, nut and grass. As the beer warms, there is a touch of a fruit yeast flavor and the grass gets a touch more floral. The palate is light to medium bodied, with soft carbonation. Tasty enough, thanks Brendan.

Cask at the brewery, December 2012. A well-hopped brown ale. Very dry malt with just a touch of maple sweetness. It has a smooth palate out of the cask. Dry finish.

Draught at the brewery, December 2012. Lots of ginger. Light malt and grain, thin palate. They did a good job with the ginger but the beer is too light.

On tap at the brewery, December 2012. Black with low carbonation, which is fine for the style. Served far too cold. Malt and lots of dried fruit, including prunes and raisin. Lightly smoked wood and some red wine, with yeast as well. Good.

On tap at Burger Jones restaurant. Pours a dark brown with minimal head. Aroma of malt and roasted grain. Quite sweet flavor that contains some coffee, some malt, and a hint of smokiness underneath. Not bad at all for a porter.

At the Irish pub in Excelsior. a better than average brown. fairly thick palate. lots of malt and it is bitter with grain. it could use some more hops, but it has something to offer in a style that is rarely worth drinking.

Draft, at the disastrous Minnesota Food Truck Festival. Gold color. Dry malt and herbal hops in both the aroma and the flavor. More hops in the aroma however, and a dry, herbal finish with malt.
