Description
Catch all for Oshikundu or Ontaku, which is a traditional Namibian drink made from fermented millet (mahangu). Both alcoholic and non-alcoholic varieties exist. It is made from cereal. It is often drunk the same day. It is widely sold in open markets.

Sampled from plastic bin at Rundu Open Market, Rundu. Milk white, only slightly thick with some meal particles separate. Remarkably fruity with some estery pineapple flavour. Besides the somewhat fatty finish it is very soft and drinkable, also less demanding for the untrained palate than the other traditional African beers I’ve encountered. At the very least the people in the market got the laugh of the day watching a white guy drinking Oshikundu...
