Bottle at share: pours black with a beige head. Aroma is vanilla, chocolate, clean bourbon, some fruitiness. Taste is pretty hefty on the Four Roses, but not fully overpowering. Quite good.

Can (2/21/22) pour. It's an opaque, dark yellow with nice sparkle, finger-width off-white foamy head with fair retention and nice rings of lacing. Aroma is strong grape over citrus. Taste is strong grape, citrus and biscuit backbone. Mouthfeel is medium side of light-to-medium bodied with thick texture, average carbonation and finish as taste. Overall, as you might expect from a single hop Nelson, strong, juicy grape, which is nice, but not super complex.

Brewery draught, 5/19/22. Dark ebony. Dark, rust-tinged, tan head shoes low retention. Crusty, old, but aromatic and not bitter coffee roast with dates, fudge, milk chocolate and light, not hot alcohol. Lotta sugar .... Sweet, of course, in flavor. Fudge, brown sugar, light acidity from the roast, crunchy, dry-roasted peanuts and strong cherry-vanilla with intense demerara. Alcohol concealed underneath all this sugar. Well, on the plus side, the barrel aged versions of this I came to pick up here should be (hopefully) much drier.

Bottle thanks to Russell. Pours a dark brown with small tan head that lasts. The aroma is strong vanilla, cocoa, roast, wood, bourbon. Slick body, dark chocolate, marzipan, roast, boozy finish, very nice.

Bottle thanks to Russell. Pours black with with small tan head that diminishes quickly. The aroma is chocolate, vanilla, cinnamon, bourbon, wood. Slick body, marshmallow powder, vanilla bean, milk chocolate, cinnamon, hides alcohol well, enjoyed this.

Bottle pour from Twelve Percent. It’s an inky black with nice viscosity (trail left along edge of the glass at the end), no sparkle or head. Aroma is strong toasted and raw coconut, vanilla and light bourbon. Taste is strong coconut, marzipan, milder vanilla and bourbon with late dark chocolate. Mouthfeel is full bodied with thick texture, mild esophageal heat, soft carbonation and finish as taste. Overall, a dessert sipper to be sure as this is quite sweet. The coconut is nailed beautifully and great complexity with little sign of alcohol.

Panda at home, thanks to Tipple, 14/05/22. Murky orange with a good sized lasting off white head. Nose is bitter tropical fruits, grass, pine resin, weed, dank chimes, ripe melon, raw pineapple. Taste comprises mango flesh, pine resin, grapefruit, papaya, tropical fruit rinds, light hop spice, papaya. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close spiked with balanced juicy come resinous hop bitterness. Decent DIPA.

Canned 4/28/22, drunk 5/10/22. Turbid sunset/orange smoothie with a massive, off-white head showing strong retention. Timid citrus and light floral notes with a touch of non-resinous pine and fruity esters from the yeast. A hint of alcohol and some peach on the end with sparse, cracker malt and hints of biscuit. Hard to coax much out of this one, aroma-wise. Powerful spelt notes (heavily cooked cream of wheat-like flavor) distract from some rather weak hop notes. Very light floral and tangerine notes with a soft texture and good attenuation. But where's all the flavor for its size? This is like session IPA hop character, or worse, with big malt and lightly sharp alcohol at points. This should be in the sweet spot at 12 days old, but it's just soggy, weak and boozey. Timber Ales has certainly been very hit or miss. Interested to try some of their barrel aged stouts next.
