Head soon gone; red-hazy amber beer. Very fruity, sour cherries, and old cognac. Serious point of acidity. Fruity, lactic-sour, laurel leaf, very dry finish. Dry, dry-out effect, rather light impression because of the acids; Liked it at least as much as the Barriquée version, even when that makes it more spectacular, short of better.

Oak aged Bright red-amber, medium orangey head. Very fruity, fleshy and fruity esters in the nose. Wood, wild strawberries, more esters and higher alcohols - very balanced flavourprofile. Medium bodied, acids thinning, lively. Another gem from Montegioco.

Totally flat, clear gold. Much more Brett than the refermented version, but all the good ones, this time. Flat flavour and mouthfeel, but nice. Lesser acidity than the refermented. Some lemon, and especially more character. I prefer this version (non wine yeast) version, especially for the original character. More, Ricardo, please.

Light lemon yellow-gold; nearly no head. Lemony, and Brett. Both the wet floormop & better variety (bought the yeast in the USA, maybe - joke, probably wild). Sour, unripe fruit. Again very Bretty int he taste, lemony, wet floormop, but with fresh water. It has a surprisingly light palate for its doing. Sharpish light, lipsmackin acidity, lactic aftertaste. Some restrained dry-out effect. I must say it grew on me. One to try, certainly.

Draught Red-amber beer with slight haze; yellow-amber, small head. Chestnut flour nose, some caramel, rather discreet in general. Roasted caramel in the taste again, and a bit herbal, grassy flavour. But, at the end, there’s diacetyl...ow. Light to medium bodied, bit flat, seems undercarbonated compared to other beers. Reasonable ale, maybe not 100% dispensed right.

’07 version Small, lightly coloured head over red-amber beer. Beautiful fruity & Brett/horseblanket nose; just superb! Makes you want to eat the bottle. " Van ’t putteke , the best, "old-sherrysation" that a kriek can carry, with a little gulp of fortified wine. Wood is there, as is the alcohol, but discreet. Very slick, oily, alcoholic-warming, sliding down way too easily. A truly great beer. Certainly amongst my favourite Italians so far. Dieci mille grazie, Bertinotte!

Huge, fine pinkish head over near fully hazy pink-grey beer. Faint fruity and flowery nose, nice, fine esters. Bit of human sweat. Also a bit, if not much fruitiness (I’m told the fruit is much more outspoken very fresh), but the fruit is not really identifyable. Retronasal flow, as from a fruitliqueur, maybe cassisliqueur. Spritzy, pretty light MF, light slickness. Nice one - again a recommandable experiment from Ricardo. Mille grazie, Monica & Davide

Amber-brown, hazy beer with a small, resisting amberish head. Very vinous nose, touch of wood, some caramel with the last sugar extracted out, fruity (cherry). Liquorice in the taste, concentrated with a scorched bitterness, shoepolish and a strang, retronasal flavour of passion fruit. Decomposing passion fruit, that is. Sharp MF, very slick. Way too sharp. The nose is really good, but the initial taste impression repulsive. Mille grazie, Bertinotte! Montegioco’s brewer Ricardo is constantly experimenting, but a lot of those experiments end up in limited releases, often even labeled differently. This one is one of the few less impressive.

Bottle at GBBF08. Almost black colour. Small light brown head. Very malty flavour, quite creamy. Good Belgian yeast.
