De keuze is ReuZe, de kwaliteit is ReuZachtig.

In 2002 werd Jos van Breda 50 jaar. Zijn boezemvriend Bernard Smits gaf hem een brouwcursus cadeau, Beide heren waren al fanatiek lid van de Vereniging Bierproeven in hun woonplaats Moergestel. In 2005 gingen ze commercieel onder de vlag van de Vereniging Pierewaaiers Reuzenbieren.

In december 2010 werd er een BV opgericht. Jos en Bernard vonden nog een partner Martin Op ‘t Hoog. Reuzenbieren B.V. was geboren, genoemd naar het lokale Reuzengilde..

Bottle @ home. Black colour with a large beige to light brown head. Smells hops, grapefruit, roasty, sweetish, cocoa. Tastes roasty, hops, bitter. Pretty nice combination of stout and IPA tastes, but nothing crazy either way. Could use both more hoppyness and roastyness. Full body, nice active carbo, slightly warming.

Bottle 330ml. [ As Reuzenbieren Oisterwijk 800 ].Clear medium orange amber orange color with a average, frothy to fizzy, fair lacing, mostly diminishing, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, caramel, candy, light moderate yeasty. Flavour is moderate to light light heavy sweet and light moderate bitter with a long duration, candy, sugary, caramel. Body is medium, texture is watery, carbonation is soft. [20140704]

Had this at Arendsnest Amsterdam, Netherlands, Sunday 28th September 2014. Pours glowing yolky orange. A little blossom in the mouth, silky, syrupy sweetness carrying a very floral beer. Bitterness is tempered by the floral flavours. Good but surprisingly lacks punch for the abv (hadn’t realised it was 11%+ until I added it) A7 A4 T7 P3 Ov14 3.5

33cl bottle from ABCBeers. Thick creamy off white head. Clear black pour. Lovely smooth bitterness. Very nice

Black with big beige head. Roasted malts, cocoa, light coffee. Light spices and some pine. Some fruit in the background, apple, apricot and some citrus. Full bodied with creamy feel. Not really a black IPA but quite nice beer, doesn't feel like 10%.

Impy with yellowish head and practically black colour. Strong aroma of coffee powder, bitter chocolate, brambleberries, black pepper, liquorice, dates. Red berries and candied fruits in the onset, typical granular mouthfeel, deep and pretty complex dark maltiness, chocolatey and increasingly roasted bitter towards the end. Stereotypical for the style, but if this is a style you like, very enjoyable. Wasn’t this brewed at the ’Proef’brouwerij initially?

33cl bottle from slijterij van Pernis and shared with Kermis. Gushed a bit. Thin tan head. Clear brown pour. More of a BSA than a barley wine. Still fairly good

One of those Pierewaaiers Reuzenbieren that used to be brewed by the ’Proef’brouwerij in Belgium. Off-white, sticky head, cloudy yellow blonde colour. Aroma of bread, pear, orange peel, honey, banana. Soft sweet fruity taste, mellow maltiness, mild spicy accents, grassy finish. Very cliché tripel but correct and enjoyable.

Commissioned beer that apparently is no longer made. Sticky, creamy head, colour a misty orange blonde. Aroma of green hops, bread, apple, orange peel, honey. Friendly fruity onset with refreshing citrus accent, mellow sweetish maltiness, finish mild aromatic hops, surprisingly low bitterness for a beer which claimed to be an IPA.
