Bottled. Golden colour, mediumsized head. Vegetably malty aroma, with weak malty hints. Vegetably malts and hops in flavour. Standard lager, but wellbalanced. Aftertaste is maltish and hoppy and lasts for quite a while. 3 2 4 2 6

Golden colour with a white head that disappears quickly. Grassy and malty aroma. A slightly sweet malty taste with a thin body and a sweet aftertaste with not much bitterness.

Bottle. My brother brought it back from Cuba for me to taste. Very pale in colour with a white head. Smell is grassy and malty. Doesn’t taste anything, very thin mouthfeel. Watery taste. I can’t recomend this beer to anyone.

(Can 35,5 cl) The pale lagers "Bucanero" and "Cristal" are all over Cuba whereas "Mayabe" is more rare. Or it’s mainly aimed at the local market? Whatever... It’s not really worth the effort seeking out. Golden, decent head. Some sweetness, no bitterness. And certainly no surprises. Completely bland lager. 030405

(Bottle 35 cl) "La preferida de Cuba" - Cuba’s preferred, and you do see Cristal just about everywhere on the tropical island. Now it’s even exported round the world - even to Denmark. One worders what all the fuss is about. This is a standard light Caribbean lager, ok head, a bit of malt sweetness and a very limited bitterness. On tap this is much fresher and lively. Works OK on a hot day in Cuba (most days are....) but anywhere else....forget it. 010405

(Bottle 35 cl) Nice pilsener golden with a fairly decent and very white head. If I read the back label correctly one could get the notion that there’s more corn than barley in this. But I don’t get the chicken-fodderish feeling here as most often with beers of high corn-content. Actually a very straight and hoppy lager. Comes in a stylish longneck bottle. 290305

Tap: Poured a golden color beer with a medium foamy head that disappeared a bit too quickly. Aroma is quite weak with only some malt being noticeable. Taste is quite sweet withy slight watery finish. Overall, this is better then most Caribean lager out there.

Can: Served ice cold on a boat just off the beach in Varadero. Beautiful surrounding, nice sunshine and good music. What more could I ask for… well a better beer then this for a start. Bland lager with some fizzyness and a watery finish. Taste like a bland macro lager and is easily forgettable.
