Was surprised to see the ratings so low for this one. A hop lovers dream heffeweizen! not a tasteless wheat ale, but one that hits you in the face with the hop aroma and flavor. great heffe color and cloudiness, but its the flavor of this one that really makes it stand out. still very crisp and clean taste on the palate, not a fat, witbier taste, but very clean tight bubbles, and the great mix of hoppy and citrus zest from a heffeweizen that deserves a much higher rating than this.

Location: Bottle at Max and Andy's Fantasy Tasting, 5/1/10

Aroma: Rich nose of chocolate, roasted malts, bourbon, vanilla, and a little wood
Appearance: It pours a jet black, almost oil-like pour, with a smallish brown head
Flavor: The taste is rather rich, malty, somewhat sweet, and a bit boozy as well
Palate: This beer has a rather full body, it is thick and oily, and a had a lightly hot finish
Overall Impression: Overall, the bourbon is there, but doesn't completely overpower this one. I guess I wasn't very surprised, as the regular version was rather big, so the barrel aging wasn't going to overwhelm it, just add to it. It works well on this beer, and this beer works well as a whole. Good stuff.

Bottle Thanks to Inflatablehair Pours out black topped with a tan head. Aroma was very nice rich malts, sweet chocolate, coffee, and some light hop notes. Taste was the same as the aroma very well balanced with great sweetness and light bitterness. I also picked up a lot of honey on this.

Location: Bottle at Max and Andy's Fantasy Tasting, 5/1/10

Aroma: The nose has lots of roasted malts, coffee, chocolate, wood, and some booze
Appearance: The pour is basically pitch black with a medium brown head
Flavor: The taste is rather rich with a big roasted malt flavor and some bitterness in the finish
Palate: The mouthfeel is thick and oily with a very full bodied feel and a long, slightly boozy finish
Overall Impression: This is a pretty big beer. It has a huge roasted feel to it. I think this makes for a pretty good beer, it might be a little too big, but that is just a small complaint, as it is certainly good stuff.

Sample from a can at the "Beer Tasting on the Front Porch". Thanks to JaBier for sharing as he got it in a trade for a bottle of water at DLD. The beer is a clear yellow-gold color with a thin fizzy white head that burns away quickly. Spotty lacing on the glass. Mild grassy hops in the nose. Light body with flavors of hops, bready malt and hay. The finish is lightly hoppy with a short grainy aftertaste. Slightly above average overall.

Can: Pours a rusty orange color with a bit of haze. Small beige head fades away quickly. Simple aroma is floral and sweet. Light citrus and earthy bits. Very low hop impact in the taste, mostly an earthy and berry sweetness. Light citrus, but I want to say most of the sweetness comes from a juneberry or something related. Ever so slight florals in the finish. Different.

750 mL bottle, from the latest release I assume. Pours a very dark brown color with a thin head. Aroma is very dark roasted malts, chocolate, coffee, plum, berries and grapes. Taste is dark roasted malts, caramel, toffee, chocolate, tobacco and leafy hops. Medium-full bodied and somewhat chewy. Smooth and lightly carbonated. Damn good beer.
