12 ounce bottle from Julios - Nice bottle and label, although that does make this beer fall a bit into gimmick territory (however, it did get me to dish out the seven bucks for it) - VERY thick black pour, with a small brown ring of lace - a little bit of light gets through, but not much - intense aroma of bitter coffee, black cherry, blueberry and roasted malts - oily mouthfeel, with soft carbonation - oatmeal stout creaminess, mingling with strong, espresso bitterness - anise, berries, black cherries, dried raisins, all mix with a medium sweetness that is tempered quite nicely with the roasted and bitter qualities of the beer - finishes with lingering sweetness and notes of tobacco and brown sugar - while intense and heavy, it never seems over the top - this is one of the best new imperial stouts I’ve had in quite some time - even at 7 bucks a bottle I’m sorry i didn’t buy more - for once, I’d say believe the hype.

Pours reddish amber into a shaker. Off-white medium head recedes at a medium pace leaving little tracing. Caramel aromas. Crisp yet smooth caramel with a lasting, sweet caramel finish. Quite malty, but very enjoyable.

Pours dark amber into a shaker. Fluffy off-white head slowly recedes leaving no lacing. Pine, resin and grapefruit aromas. Watery malt up-front with a lasting pine finish.

She got cans, she knows how to use them. This hag never begs, she knows how to choose them. She pours dark reddish amber, pretty clear but dark enough to allow only medium clarity. So she shows you a lot but only in the right light. What a tease. At first this hag gives a big head but as usually after a little bit of time it just becomes a medium lacing with slight stickiness. Aroma is what seems to almost have become common place now with American IPAs. Hoppiness mixed with caramel maltiness. Hops are tropical fruit and caramel is pretty strong. Taste takes the idea but mixes the two elements very well. Medium bitterness throughout all the flavor. Light earthy roastiness at the end of the flavor. Aftertaste is sweet hops and bittered caramel. Man this hag likes to tease you with sweetness and bitterness. A perfectly medium body with light tickling on the roof of the mouth.

Thanks to beastiefan2k for this gift - put aside the fact that the design/font on the can seems more appropriate for an energy drink - drink it. it’s good? - indeed, but how good? - nice copper hue with sticky lace - very fresh (green?) hop aroma, with lots of grass/pine/hay characteristics, and background bready malt - medium bodied - crisp bitterness couples with semi-dry, biscuity malt flavors (think traditional english bitter with the hop profile increased) - some breadiness and light honey creeps in afterwards, but for the most part this remains a rather dry beer - some light mineral/hard water/burton quality crops up near the finish, after which the beers thins out a little - another decent IPA, because lord knows the world needs more of those.

Pours deep black into a snifter. Cocoa and coffee aromas. Mocha head with excellent retention leaves no lacing. Sharp carbonation with slightly sour upfront chocolate and a lasting bitter espresso finish.

Can from jah noth. Hazy copper body, medium creamy off-white head. Rich hoppy aroma with citrus, pine, and earthy notes, backed by sweet malts. Toasty body with notes of Cheerios and bitter, piney hops. Well-balanced and complex. The rich malt character really lifts this beer; this could pass for a hopped-up Irish Ale.

Very hazy deep cherry brown body with a small creamy off-white head. Strong floral hops aroma. Floral hops dominating the flavor with a light caramel background.

2004 bottle purchased at Julio’s, which is apparently the only place that still carries (or ever carried!) this beer - the rubber (wax my ass) seal nearly broke my damn bottle opener, even after I removed a lot of it with a knife - completely still, dark amber pour - musty, cellared aroma, with notes of fig, brown sugar, flaked oats, toffee (actually not too bad a start) - very sweet up front, with a relatively light body - toffee and raisins, followed by a boozy, alcohol burn - some roasted malt and, I swear, wet cardboard - artificial, almost chlorinated qualities (like drinking pool water) - the otherwise pleasant qualities of the beer are all subordinated to this HUGE flaw - finish has slight roastiness and artificial sweetener sweetness - kind of a lame-ass beer.
