Description
In 1794, Dorset rope and net makers, the Gundry family, built the Old Brewery on the banks of the River Brit in Bridport. Since then, there’s been non-stop brewing on this site. In the late 19th century, two Palmers brothers – John Cleeves and Robert Henry – bought the brewery and gave it their names: JC & RH Palmer. Today, their great grandsons, John and Cleeves Palmer, work in the company. As Palmers Brewery, it remains among the best of small independent brewers.

Cask @ Ferry Inn, Salcombe. Very dark red with a bubbly head. It has sweet tasting dark malts and is a tad overbearing in this respect.

Cask at PoW, Farnborough. Low key fruity aroma. Light amber. Thin bubbly translucent white head offers 30% coverage. Light bitter. Some citrus. Some spice. The rest is boiled veg. Light. Thin if it does offer some slickness. Average carbonation. Long dry astringent finish. Slips downs it's so light but generally a bland beer.

Keg at Pow, Farnborough. Apparently this is craft. Grassy floral aroma which gradually gains more boiled veg. Pale copper gold. Thin creamy translucent white head soon recedes. Medium bitter with a citrus tang. Underlying herbs. Light bodied. Slick. Fizzy carbonation. Long dry finish. More character than I was expecting. Nice enough.
