Description
In Fall ’09, we finally received our official brewer’s license from the federal government. Just 2 months later, we attended our very first festival: Strange Brewfest in Port Townsend. Later that Spring, we had the honor of being the Hometown Brewery Representative for the Father’s Day Beer Festival at St. Edward State Park; upon arrival we were welcomed by the Mayor himself.

Our first year of production, we produced just about 10 barrels of beer. Every year since then, our production has about quadrupled, as we continue to add new recipes to our lineup.

First came the Kopper Rye, now we have the new and improved, and spelled far too accurately for my usual taste, Amber Rye. Confirmed as a completely different beer by the brewmaster. Pours a dark copper amber with a soda fizz head. Mild aroma of balanced hop and grain. Slightly sweet grain up front with a lot of vegetal notes throughout. Always a.hit or miss style for me but this one found the middle for me. Late hop palate. Not bad.

Draft pour pint at the 192 lake trail taproom. Listed at 3.8%, 18 IBU. Pours a bright golden color with almost no head. Has a suprising amount of hop aroma. From a distance. Light beer, but a medium body to it, and doesn’t really taste super light. Gentle hop flavor with a short bitterness. When the weather is hot, this beer goes nicely. Decent pale here.

Draft pour pint at the 192 lake trail taproom. Pours a cola black with no head. Sweet and sour dark fruit aroma. Flavor is a little toasty up front, with some wood, and a unique sourness to it, which caught me by surprise. On the right track here, but I feel like something might have gone a little wrong here. Overall it didn’t turn out bad. Just off. I’ll drink this again.

Draft pour at the 192 lake trail taproom. Pours a dark brown color with a very thin head. Very mild chocolate malt aroma. Flavor is mildly toasty, smooth chocolate, and malt. Vanilla mostly comes in towards the finisg, and lingers. A little lighter in body and has a tiny bit of tartness to it as well, which was a little strange. Very light compared to other stouts. I feel like something is missing here, but not bad. With a little work I can see a great beer here. For now, I’ll put it in my vague category of: pretty good. --- Beer merged from original tick of Tart 'Nilla on 28 Mar 2017 at 20:44 - Score: Appearance - 8 | Aroma - 6 | Flavor - 7 | Texture - 6 | Overall - 6.5. Original review text: Draft 10 oz pour at the 192 Lake Trail Taproom. Whoever I see a brewery release a sour version of a previously released beer, I fasten my seatbelt. This case seems to be a bit backwards from the norm. If this batch was soured by accident, it’s a happy mistake. I like it better than the regular ’Nilla. Dark cola brown pour. Quick fading head. Chocolate, vanilla, and black cherry aroma. Sound odd, but it seems to work. Flavor is initially a sour cherry fruit, with the stout factor being a complete afterthought. A soft nuttiness in there. Not a great sour according to someone like me who seeks them out, but this was far from being a disaster. A unique, decent offering to add to their limited lineup.

Draft pour at the 192 lake trail taproom. Shortly after this beers initial release. Pours a super muddy brown color with no head. Sweet chocolate aroma. This beer doesn’t look so good in the glass, however it’s very tasty. Tastes like a chocolate candy bar. Picking up some peanut butter as well. Not getting any of the expected chipotle spice. A dessert beer in my opinion. Overall, I enjoyed the hell out of this beer.

Draft pour at the 192 lake trail taproom. Pours a clear golden color with no head. Nice aroma of grains and sweet honey. Not a whole lot of flavor going on here. Crisp grainy flavor all throughout. Somewhat refreshing. Not great but not bad either.

Draft at the 192 lake trail taproom. Served with a cinnamon stick per the brewery’s recommendation. This is the only way I have had it so my feelings about it are neutral. Pours a cloudy burnt orange color with no head. Cinnamon apple aroma, though the stick likely provides the majority of that. Slightly tart green apple flavor with some orange and light spice. Overall an enjoyable beer.

Draft pour at the Lake Trail pub. Pours a lighter golden color with a decent pale malt aroma. Very light body. Faint malt aroma with some hops. Kind of a bready flavor as well. Super easy drinking, tasty beer. Not bad.

Hazy golden color served with a cinnamon stick (bad idea). Smooth mouthfeel; some malt flavor; the cinnamon covers pretty much, but its not too bad.
