19/5/2023. Bottle from a supermarket just before Taroko National Park. Enjoyed, kind of, at the Grand Hyatt, Taipei. Despite the name, it pours not black but a clear dark amber with a small frothy off-white head. Aroma is malty, malted chocolate, malt biscuit, caramel , light spice, veggie worty edge. Medium sweetness and moderate bitterness. Moderate body, average carbonation. Pleased to have found this, and it beats most other Taiwan TLC beers, but I won’t look for it again.

11/5/2023. Can from a 7-Eleven around Liuhe Night Market, Kaohisung. Enjoyed from the can as we toured the Taiwanese East Coast. Can celebrates the Megaport Festival 2023. Was expecting a dark beer based on the Porter name (as was whoever added it to RateBeer as Porter style it seems) but could see it was just a golden. Tastes and smells much like regular Taiwan Beer Gold Medal, maybe with a little chocolate malt and caramel but that might have just been the power of suggestion. It could be just a special can with the same old same old beer inside, though I did enjoy this more in Taiwan than the Gold Medal I had before in UK.

10/5/2023. Can from a 7-Eleven around Liuhe Night Market, Kaohisung. Enjoyed at Hotel Royal Chihpen. Pours clear amber copper with a frothy off-white head. Aroma is a curious mix of red grape shloer, bubblegum, stale tobacco, candy cane, petrol and Vaseline. Quite sweet, and quite medicinal. Sweetness carrys on growing, with an odd bitter finish, and an aftertaste of over-chewed hubba bubba. Looked good but not enjoyable.

10/5/2023. Can from a 7-Eleven around Liuhe Night Market, Kaohisung. Enjoyed from the can on the tour bus. Taste and aroma is sweet pineapple juice, quite artificial, like pineapple cube sweets. Hint of bitterness. Not bad aroma but not especially enjoyable being so sweet.

9/5/2023. Can from a 7-Eleven around Liuhe Night Market, Kaohisung. Enjoyed from the can whilst strolling the busy market streets and dodging locals taking no prisoners on mopeds. Aroma and taste both very malty and worty. Thin, watery, quite fizzy. Was okay at first when cold. Wasn’t expecting it to be good so wasn’t disappointed.
