Description
The brewery Slaghmuylder was founded in 1860 by Emmanuel Slaghmuylder. Around the turn of the century his son Ernest took over the company. He married Marie Van Roy, daughter of a brewer family of Wieze. His three sons opened a new brewery in 1926 which could start immediately with the new brewing process for lager beer. During the war of 1940-1945 brewing restarted for high-fermentation ales. It is only in1958 that the brewery started again with the production of low-fermentation beers. In the mid sixties the three brothers were succeeded by their sons. From 1979 on, the three nephews started brewing the Witkap Pater beers on request of brewery "De Drie Linden" from Brasschaat. In 1981 the Witkap Pater brand was officially taken over by Slaghmuylder. Beginning of theeighties the brewery was equipped with separate fermentation and layering cellars for both high and low fermentation beers. Brewery Slaghmuylder remains a unique family company that builds on a rich tradition.

Bottle: Poured dark brown with reddish tint, the head is thin and off white. Aroma is sweet malt. The taste follows up that sweet malt but has a dry alcohol finish that tingles. Overall very balanced dubbel.

Bottle courtesy of and shared with ozujsko (thanks!) Poured a murky ochre-yellow body with a gigantic white head that went away at a medium to slow pace. The nose was lovely, agrumey (lime), with notes of honey and yeast. The taste, while pleasant, didn’t match up. Sweet, malty, notes of lemon and watermelon, subdued, some herbal hopiness. A bit more intensive, this’d be stunning, but, like this, it’s "only" good.

(Bottle 33 cl) Courtesy of yespr. Pours an almost clear, pale golden with a huge, shaving foam style head. Mysterious, leathery, Brettanomyces-like aroma. Fairly light in body with lightly sweet, pale malts, citrusy notes and a dry, lightly biter finish. Very odd - Brett notes without acidity. But interesting. Slaghmuylder makes really odd seasonals. 051007
