Description
The brewery Slaghmuylder was founded in 1860 by Emmanuel Slaghmuylder. Around the turn of the century his son Ernest took over the company. He married Marie Van Roy, daughter of a brewer family of Wieze. His three sons opened a new brewery in 1926 which could start immediately with the new brewing process for lager beer. During the war of 1940-1945 brewing restarted for high-fermentation ales. It is only in1958 that the brewery started again with the production of low-fermentation beers. In the mid sixties the three brothers were succeeded by their sons. From 1979 on, the three nephews started brewing the Witkap Pater beers on request of brewery "De Drie Linden" from Brasschaat. In 1981 the Witkap Pater brand was officially taken over by Slaghmuylder. Beginning of theeighties the brewery was equipped with separate fermentation and layering cellars for both high and low fermentation beers. Brewery Slaghmuylder remains a unique family company that builds on a rich tradition.

Bottle, had this at Berenbak, Antwerp, Belgium, 06-10-06. This bottle was labelled Witkap Pater Stimulo but I understand that it is an alias of this beer as the link led me here. Poured a pale blond yellow colour with a slight haze, quite aromatic little bit flowery, first taste was quite fruity, but there was definate yeasty overtones. Enjoyable without being stunning.

Bottle, Paters Vaeje, Antwerp, Belgium, 05-10-06. Dark brown beer with off white head, some yeast and malt in the aroma also maybe a bit spicey. Taste was very good and came across again as being a little spicey with a definate fruitiness of dark rich fruits and I semed to get a hint maybe of coriander mixed in for good measure? Overall a very decent beer.

Bottle at Brugs Beertje. Cloudy gold with lasting off white head. Lovely tangeriney triple aroma. Very attractive aroma, bit of banana. Some creaminess in mouth, bit of mushroom??, bit of stickyness. I like it, very drinkable.

(Draught at Akkurat, Stockholm, 2 Sep) Colour is amber with firm white head. Nose is fruity with fresh aromas of orange peel, toffee and spicy hops. Taste is malty and fruity with citrus, orange peel and well balanced spicy hops in the dry finish. Fairly short but very fresh.

A simple and pleasant beer. Good but kind of expensive for what it is. Light, cloudy gold beer and a white head. Medium sweet malt and light fruit. Sort of a Belgian session beer. Solid but unremarkable.

Bottle at GBBF 2006. Gold with lasting white head. Rather a nice aroma for a something I wasn’t especially looking forward to. Some nice hop citrus. Thinnish in mouth. Quite a nice dry hoppy finish. Not bad.

Hazy yellow with a head of white. The aroma is spicy with touches of anise added to a typical Belgian funkyness. The flavor was mildly sweet with a dry hop finish. The palate was very light, almost watery, but there is enough flavor and aroma to make this one interesting.

(Bottled, Akkurat, Stockholm, 18 July) Colour is dark brown with ruby hints, almost opaque, with a firm beige head. Nose is malty with chocolate notes. A bit shy, actually. Taste is malty with notes of chocolate fudge, marzipan and some blackberries. Smooth mouthfeel. Nicely balanced but lacking something extra in my opinion. Good beer though.

(Draught at Akkurat, stockholm) Colour is straw yellow, with a frothy lasting head. Nose is fruity, yeasty and spicy with hints of lemon peel. Taste is fruity and spicy (can’t put my finger on any particular spice though) with hints of citrus. Balanced sweetness and balanced bitterness in the finish. Very good.
