Description
The brewery Slaghmuylder was founded in 1860 by Emmanuel Slaghmuylder. Around the turn of the century his son Ernest took over the company. He married Marie Van Roy, daughter of a brewer family of Wieze. His three sons opened a new brewery in 1926 which could start immediately with the new brewing process for lager beer. During the war of 1940-1945 brewing restarted for high-fermentation ales. It is only in1958 that the brewery started again with the production of low-fermentation beers. In the mid sixties the three brothers were succeeded by their sons. From 1979 on, the three nephews started brewing the Witkap Pater beers on request of brewery "De Drie Linden" from Brasschaat. In 1981 the Witkap Pater brand was officially taken over by Slaghmuylder. Beginning of theeighties the brewery was equipped with separate fermentation and layering cellars for both high and low fermentation beers. Brewery Slaghmuylder remains a unique family company that builds on a rich tradition.

(I can understand that this is exported under the name 'single'. But the age-old original name, dating already from the Verlinden brewery at Brasschaat is STIMULO) Pale yellow. Thick white head, collapsing. Fresh, herbal, grassy nose, a bit hoppy. I cannot smell the maize (joke). Sharper, spicey taste. Hint of mustard seed? Fruity taste likesome exotic fruit: papaya, cactus-fig,... Rather well-bodied for such a light beer. Beautiful traditional ale.Was one of the first, and last, beers calling itself "Trappist", before this became reserved for the Trappist monasteries. I still think it has Trappist-quality.

Bottled. Cloudy golden colour. Acidic fruity aroma. Freshly malty, more so than Witkap Pater Stimulo, but otherwise near identical.

Apricot, yeast a lot of the typical belgian ale background. Hazy golden lowish head. A bit sour, somewhat flowery. Sightly watery finish.

Clear blond colour. White fizzy head, good lacing and mostly diminishing. Yeasty flavour with some yoghurt. In the sourness, you can perceive some sourness of lambic-based beer, unfortunately this beer hasn't got the ideal formula of combining the several flavours to get a complex, well-balanced flavour. Sour-sweet initial flavour and finish.

Beautiful ruby amber color; generous, creamy head. Malt aroma; caramel; light fruitness (cherry-like). Dry and sour taste, refreshing; malt (and a residual sweetness) with some fruity hint (light cherries...).
I would rather define it as a Flemish Sour Ale.

Straw coloured; Aroma is yeasty, peachy with some wild character. Complex flavour - candyish, slightly acidic, lemon rind, yeast...yeah, this is good stuff.
