Bottle. Clear copper with a bare coat of light beige head. Dried fruit, grapes, dough and licorice - OK, sasparilla - aroma. Fruity taste with apples and grapes as well as dried fruit. Some sourness that’s a bit applish too. A little like some Dubbels I’ve had, but rather clean in the yeast department. A second glass is murkier and has a little more body. Original and pretty good.

Clear amber coloured body with a very thin slightly off-white head. Aroma of iron, malt, cereal, fruit and an interesting smell that i’ll always associate with Flintstones vitamins. Light to Medium-bodied; Strong malty and deep iron flavours with a lot of fruit notes, some odd and complex pale tastes, and if they are hops they are varieties i’ve never had before (which is possible, as they are from the Yarra valley). Overall, an interesting pale, and quite different than an APA or EPA, but nice to try. I sampled this 33 cL bottle purchased from Slowbeer in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia on 31-December-2009 sampled at home on this side of the world at home in Washington on 19-May-2011.

Bottle 33 cl. Courtesy of bluebetty. Clear deep golden with an off-white head. Fresh citrusy hops in the nose with an underlying sweetness. Medium body, some caramel sweetness and distinct citrusy hoppiness. The finish may be considered a bit raw and unrefined from the bittering hops, but in general a decent APA. 150311

Tap at GABS. Gold with a little white head. Extremely smooth and very sticky. Nicely integrated alcohol. Layers of light caramel, delicate spicy and earthy hops are there as a seasoning and just about stop it being oversweet. Germanic balance. Not at all my sort of thing but quite elegant.

Bottle. Hazy orange with a small off-white head that fades to a coat. Aroma has bread, lemon, banana, vanilla. Rather flat mouthfeel for a hefe. Taste is moderately sweet with a little banana and less lemony tang than suggested by the aroma. Quite nice spices - cloves, white pepper, vanilla - in a brief finish.

Bottle. Lovely clear golden brown with excellent white head. Lovely floral and citrus aroma. Light body with slightly creamy mouthfeel from plenty of fine carbonation. Flavour has clean refreshing start with some stonefruit hints. This develops into a rich maltiness with hints of coffee or dark chocolate and ends with some decent bitterness. An excellent beer.

From a 330ml bottle on 13/10/2010. The smell is fruity hops (lychee, berries) and a bit of caramel and honey. Flavours include toffee, orange and grapefruit. Has a clanging, lasting bitter finish. An excellent beer, particularly for hop heads. Rating 3.7.

Re-rate: From the tap at the Local Taphouse, St Kilda on 27/1/2011 (part of a five beer tasting paddle). Nothing much to add to the above. A very good ESB. Rating 3.7.

Re-rate on 29/4/2017 (bottle. A little less enthused about it this time round, though solid enough.

Pours black with a small tan head.Nose shows rich, sweet roasted malt, lots of dark chocolate and espresso. Very nice.Flavours are more aggressive, lots of roasted character and a bit of trecle without any of the aforementioned chocolate and very little supporting malt. Finishes short and sharp with a roasty bitterness.Body seems a little watery.
