Description
It all started in 1986. Sure, many things have changed since the early days of Harpoon, but much has stayed the same. We still love brewing beer and enjoying it with friends.

In July 2014, Harpoon became an employee owned company, with 48% of the company given to employees through the establishment of an ESOP. An E-what? ESOP stands for Employee Stock Ownership Plan. It is a mechanism by which a company contributes to its employees’ retirement by allocating shares to them which it repurchases…..yadda, yadda, yadda… Here’s what it means: we are employee owned, we are an independent craft brewer, and you bet we’re damn proud of it.

Amber colour with a nice slightly off-white head. Subtle smell with a decent amount of malt detectable in the nose. A normal ale, nothing too special throughout.

Kind of watery and murky-looking for a bock, but otherwise pretty good. Aroma of spices, gingerbread and oatmeal. The flavor is very roasty, with hints of oats from the aroma making an entrance. Slight citrus notes. There is something about the flavor that reminds me of a barley wine. Smooth, clean finish. This is a pretty darn good spring beer.

Very drinkable, but thin and mild for a winter beer, especially one that claims to be a winter "warmer." The spices (cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger) are present, tastes like Christmas all right. Not much else to the flavor, though, and the finish is watery and uneventful.

Bottled. Deep golden with big, lively head. Estery flowery hoppy aroma. Sweet and malty with soft mouthfeel and hop bitter finish. A well balanced IPA.

Good beer, nothing special...no excessive hops. In fact, I would classify this as a Pale Ale, not even an IPA. I wouldn''t drink this again if a good IPA was offered from the pub!

Too much hoppiness and not nearly enough maltiness. This beer is watery, with a mostly uninteresting flavor. It tastes like they took their IPA and mixed a little bit of someone else''s oktoberfest into it.

This has a wonderful, floral aroma and amber color. However, it is a tad on the bland side for an IPA. The hops don't sing as much as I would like in an IPA either. But, all this aside, it is a good overall beer.

Wonderful bitter hop taste that plays on the palate and warms the mouth. Finishes crisp, maybe a bit too watery. must try again.

2002 bottlebetter than i expected. Light, very light. gold kolsch, i had this when i had Sierra SummerFest. it didnt stand up, but maybe a better choice for the casual drinker. Grassy and clean. 2003 draft in boston Well this certainly was alot better than the bottle I tried last year in Rochester. Initial taste is sharp with some sour hops/yeast flavor that adds a meaty punch up front and was very pleasant. The beer finished off even and had some sweet and yeasty notes throughout. The body stood up well and did not thin out.

this started out great. . . but then went no where. it has almost no body. just a nice fruity, hoppy nose that peters off leaving me thinking. why didnt they finish making this beer? MORE MORE MORE, thats all it needed.
