2003 bottle. Deep amber-brown/mahogany, wavy and has some yellow tones. Good off-white head that lasts long. Smells lightly hopped, slightly tart and a touch of roast. Begins with a big slightly syrupy malt, that is chewy and lightly nutty. Body is a satisfying medium. Moderately carbonated. Finish has a big hops flavor for it. More so than traditional for the style I would think, as this one is not overly malted. But the hops taste fresh. Warming up, it gets sweeter, lightly chocolatey. I thought it much better than average.(7/4/7/4/16) 2004 bottle. Not quite as decent as I remembered. More watery, some fruity hops and a very dry malt. Light caramel/mild chocolate sweetness on the finish. Color, aside from being filtered, still looks impressive. (6/4/6/2/11)

Wow, what the hell is this? Dark chestnut-amber with roastiness??!! in the flavor leading to spoiled fruits, nearly syrupy caramel and very little redeeming anything. Rating is for this recent sample.

This poured a medium head (small for a wheat beer) over a just slightly cloudy golden yellow beer full of fine bubble streams. There's a lemony yeasty aroma. Very little flavor but it has a creamy smooth mouthfeel. Refreshing hot weather beer.

Light yellow, slight rusty oranges. Moderately cloudy. Big foamy white head. Huge coriander smell. Begins light and spicy. Coriander, wheat and other various spices. Very low sugar, flavor of light lemon, wheat and coriander linger on. Not much citrus/curacao in this one, if any. Not terribly complex, just good. Hops are detectable, which is nice; tettnang or hallertauer? maybe saaz?

Very dark burgundy-brown colour. Big rocky head. Aroma is roasty, with some toffeeish, chewy maltiness. Roasty body, coffeeish and nutty. Like St. Ambroise on one of its "bad" days.

Orangey, hazy appearance seems like a dubbel/tripel hybrid to me. The aroma is of pale malts, yeast, hops. Light, fluffy, somewhat apricoty dubbel flavours, but with a drier, yeastier tripel finish. I wondered what precisely they meant by "abbey-style" and now I know - they mean that they were shooting for either a dubbel or a tripel but got both!

Cloudy beige colour. Malty aroma, lightly spicy and phenolic (band-aid). Very spicy palate (odd stuff like star of anise and grains of paradise). Creamy maltiness lies underneath. Pleasant, if a little odd.

Copper coloured body with a super-sized head full of huge bubbles. Aroma of strong nutmeg, a bit of canella, a large malt background and the always present caramel. Medium-bodied; One-dimensional taste of nutmeg overwhelming all maltiness. Caramel in the aftertaste, but not much else. Overall, a decent beer, not one you'd want all winter long though! I bought this twelve ounce bottle at Norm's in Vienna, Virginia and sampled it on 19-November-2003.

Pours a dark ruby-brown with a thin light tan head. Very thin and quick lacing. Aroma of coffee along with a bit of chocolate. Medium body as well. This beer is a little sharp on the front buy mellows a bit later on. There is a blend of sweet malt, caramel, coffee and some hops in the flavor, but none in abundance. The finish is mildly bitter. Overall this beer seems kind of lackluster.

Thanks to Darkover for the trade. This brew is a clear amber-orange color with a medium thin and quickly dissipating off-white head. Thin and quick lacing. Mild aroma of hops. Medium-bodied and rather smooth with a tempered hops and malt flavor. The finish is smooth and lightly malty. As an Amber ale this falls a little short but it is a fair session ale thanks to the smoothness.
