Description
Une Anneé, an Independent Craft Brewery, was born, in 2013, on the near west side of Chicago, with the quest of making fine Belgian inspired ales for all beer lovers. Founded by architect and Chicago native, Jerry Nelson, Une Anneé, has expanded it’s offerings over the years with an emphasis on fruited and unfruited American Wile Ales and Barrel Aged Stouts. In 2017, the brewery moved to neighboring Chicago suburb, Niles, IL and expanded to include a taproom. The working brewery in the background lends a hand to creating a laid back atmosphere where you can sit back and enjoy some of your favorite craft beers on tap.

Pour is a murky river water brown with a barely there tan head. Aroma is dark fruit, dark candi sugar and alcohol. Flavor is dark fruit a little tootsie roll sweetness but a big warm hit of alcohol. I can't say this is my favorite quad. A pretty good dark sugary fruit but does not hide the alcohol at all.

Poured up on tap at Tipsy where it exhibits a mahogany colored body that supports a thin light tan head of foam. The modest aroma offers up prunes and figs and then caramel drizzled dates. Nice. The taste delivers smooth supple prune to plum to fig like sweet fruity esters. Toward midway a murmur of kettle caramelization can just be noticed integrating into the esters. Yes. This is smooth and integrated with no annoying brightness. Nice stuff.

Can from Tavour. Pours clear dark brown with a slight transient tan head. Aroma of malt and dark fruit. Full bodied. Dry. Well not entirely dry. Lightly bitter. Flavor is malt, dark fruit and notes of banana and yeast/spice. Also kandi. And definitely some heat. Rather ravishing drink.

Single from Craft Beer Cellar in Dallas. Long stay nearby before bringing it home to rest in the fridge for a few weeks. Pint glass. First thought is that this is sort of pale for raspberries. Pours a hazy orange with a very slight plummy color blended in. Weak soda head crash. Smells like POG. Very veggy, fruity vinegar sour nose with just a bit of raspberry warmth. Sour raspberry, sorta bright cherry, very vinegary, veggie, prickly acid, tart wincing finish, bit of pesticide burn, strawberry yogurt on the tail. Too much vinegar. Pork marinade? Thin, yeasty, well carbonated. Too brutally one-sided to enjoy past a few sips.

Single from Craft Beer Cellar in Dallas. Pint glass at home. Big peachy-colored head. Dense orange hazy body. Grassy unripe fruit, red berry with a slightly tropical edge, vanilla smoothness, peachy finish. Thin, peachy skin + green strawberry, sharp apricot & a bit too much vinegar. Very slight smoke. Thin, plenty acidic, very low carb. A bit boozy for only 6.5%. Just okay, but strawberry is so difficult to push forward in beer.

Can, from Beermiscuous, Chicago (Aug 2023). Faintly cloudy dark brown/copper with a small foamy dark beige head, woodsy dried dark fruits aroma, adequate carbonation, initially sweet woodsy caramel taste with dried dark fruits, alcohol undertones, prune, berries, smooth thin body, long woodsy finish. A great brew!

Aromas are tart cherries, malt with a little yeast and spice. Flavors are similar to nose with a barest hint of sweet in back. Okay body and carbonation. Very short lived fizzy head on a dark amber liquid with a tiny bit of pink.
