Pours deep red, with a thin light tan head. Aroma reveals layers of caramel and toast. Toasty body with caramel and a cerealy finish. Not a high ABV beer but alcohol flavor is apparent. Solid bock.

Pours clear copper-red with a thin off-white head. Light musty, earthy aroma which hints at cherries but doesn’t have any tart, sweet character. The body is watery and the flavor is rather weak, although the cherries lend an earthy tartness to the otherwise boring, bland lager body. I could kick a few of these back, however.

Black with a huge brown head. Coffee aroma. Flavor of smooth, mild coffee. Very well balanced and easy to drink. Bitter finish.

Slightly hazy dark amber colour with a very dense off-white creamy head. Smells of hops, a bit of sourness, malt and even a slight sweetness. Medium-bodied; Spicey character and taste with a bit of the malt showing through, but hardly any of the hops. Aftertaste fairly bland but pleasing. No really bittering characteristics on the aftertaste at all. Overall, a decent beer...I don't think this is a Vienna...but whatever. I'm very lucky to get a bottle of this...thanks go out to CaptainCougar for sending me the twelve ounce bottle! Thanks Tom :-)

Nice amber colour with a very thing off-white head. Smells of citrus and higher a.a. hops. Initial hoppy and slightly malty. A bit off on balance, the hops show more dominance throughout the beer, but it isn't too far off. The palate is pretty crisp and refreshing with a slight hop bitterness which leaves you waiting to take the next sip. Overall, a pretty decent APA with all considerations included! Brew date of: week 2, May 2003. I bought this 12 ounce bottle from Total Beverage in Thornton (Denver), Colorado.

Sampled at From The Vine monthly beer tasting Aug 4th, 2003: I normally like the coffee aspect in many Stouts but in this case it is a little too much. Pours like a cup of cold coffee. Very small beige head and thin lacing. Aroma is coffee, coffee, coffee. A little on the thin and brittle side for a Stout. This is actually leaning toward a Porter in many ways. The coffee flavor is dominant, with a slight roasty malt presence, but you have to search for it. The finish is a little watery and maintains the bitter coffee flavor found throughout. Lakefront really seems to be hit and miss to me.

2000 Bottle: Hmm. Usually I don't like when beers are bottled in servings smaller than 12oz, especially at $2 for 6.3oz. Thoroughly dark orange with an almost nonexistent off-white head. Aroma of caramel, malt and alcohol. Rich body with a flavor that is very intense and is almost too much to take in. In that regard I was happy for the smaller serving size. The flavor is very in-your-face fruit (apricot and apple), alcohol and caramel. This would be better if it had some time to calm down I think.

With an intriguing name, but unpleasing bottle art of a feral cat hunting a red-winged blackbird in a cattail marsh, I poured my first Lakefront ale. Alas, I was profoundly disappointed by the bland nature of this brew. Had a very faint aroma upon opening, and poured a dark straw/amber color, with a thin white head. Flavor was kind of sour, with a very light hops kick. Built for session consumption, I'll assume. I can only hope my Lakefront foray takes me to wilder territory...

[draught] I had no idea this was a vienna at all, and never would have guessed it either. It's character is much more like a bock. Sweet aroma, caramel and cloves - rusty brown/burnt orange color - the flavor is very full, with caramel, nuts and slight chocolate notes - the finish is smooth, though bitter at times, but this is still a great beer.

[draught] Easy drinking, but lacking any stand-out characteristics. The body is pretty thin, and the aroma fails to grabs attention and make you want to drink the beer at all. Slight coffee flavor at least keeps the tongue from being completely bored, otherwise this is a waste of calories.
